MS Pac/Gal Reunion JS same as HAPP Super!!??
« on: September 11, 2006, 09:12:23 am »
When I first built my CP I, as many others, followed Kneivel's basic design and had 2 - 8 way Joysticks and 1-4 way.  For my 4 way I chose the HAPP Super and set it up for the 4 way mode.

I later added the illuminated blue ball top handle because it fit with the lighted blue theme of my cab and I liked the idea of having a ball top JS along side my bat handle ones.

After reading several different posts on what is the best 4 way stick, it seemed to me that most people believed the Ms Pacman/Galaga reunion stick was the best out there still in production.  So I thought, what the heck, I'll pick one up, see if my blue lighted handle will fit in, and see how much better it really is.

I just got my stick on Friday and was shocked to see NO DIFFERENCE in the base from my HAPP Super except that it uses 2 screws to hold each microswitch in place instead of 1 screw and a plastic stump.  The position of the microswitch is exactly the same, and even all the logo/markings on the rest of the base are identical.

My lighted blue handle fit just fine (obviously) and I did install the new base since I had basically paid for no perceviable upgrade I felt like I should install it anyway.

I think there's almost a $5 difference in price between the two sticks and except for the way the microswitches are mounted and the black bat handle versus the red ball top, I see no difference.

I haven't see this mentioned anywhere else and wanted to point this out for newbees like myself.  For all of you that contributed to those threads I read through, what's the deal and why do you think the reunion stick is better?

On another note, I did look through some parts I had left over from trying to aquire some volcano buttons and found I do have a WICO 4 way leaf JS that I might try to retrofit and see if that works well in my cab.  Just looking to try some different things, I wasn't unhappy with the way my Super played I was just curious if I was missing out on a better experience.

If you look again, you'll see the one important difference:  On the Super, the hole that restricts the handle's movement is round in shape.  On the Reunion, it's a diamond shape.  That's the big functional difference, and what makes it a 4-way instead of an 8-way.

Other than that, yes, they're the same stick.

Okay, I just went back and you're right!  Okay, I'm dumb  :-\ I now see how that does make a nice difference.  So I guess the good news now is that I didn't just waste money and I have an awesome 4 way stick with a lighted round top!

Thanks for setting me straight!
