JAMMA monitor without controls dreamcast
« on: September 02, 2006, 04:24:11 pm »
I am making a dreamcast arcade cabinet, and I have a jamma cabinet with "Air Buster" connected to it. I was wondering if I could connect the dreamcast to the monitor but use different controls (since JAMMA doesn't allow enough).

I know how to connect DC to JAMMA and arcade monitors; that's not what I'm asking.

Worded differently :):can i disconnect the montior from the jamma harness so it becomes a standard arcade monitor, or is it always jamma,as in, if I use the monitor, I MUST use the controls?

thanks for any help.

If you try to use any other controls with a jamma monitor the entire cabinet will explode!

It's late and I couldn't resist.  There is no such thing as a jamma monitor.  The controls have nothing to do with the monitor.

No doubt .... don't do it ..... I read about that happening in the enquirer once.

Seriously, the monitor functioning has absolutely nothing to do with it being in a JAMMA cabinet. A monitor consists of two connections: power and video input signal. As long as the input (dreamcast) is the proper frequency range (15khz if you have a standard resolution monitor) then you're good to go. Has nothing to do with the JAMMA harness or controls at all.

 ;D

Just a couple things you'll need to find out and know ahead of time:

The monitor type and model you have.
The video signal pinout for that monitor.
And is it possible to output/hack a Dreamcast for RGB Negative Composite Sync video output signal. (I've never looked into that one)

Basically... How do you plan on physically connecting the Dreamcast up to that particular arcade monitor?
