Trackball and IPac Problems
« on: September 01, 2006, 07:56:05 pm »
I'm having a couple problems with my cabinet. First one is my trackball is hooked up to my Opti-Pac and when windows boots up, the trackball works correctly while using it as a mouse pointer. When I load up any game in Mame that uses the trackball, it does not work and I can only control input with the joysticks and buttons. Is there a special setting I need to setup in Mame or windows in order to get the trackball to be recognized?

My next problem is in IPac4, I'm using Mamewah as my frontend and whenever I push the 3rd player joystick to the right. Mame exits, the same happens in Mamewah. I've checked all settings options and I cannot find anything that would make this occur. The wiring is correct on that joystick and is connected to the correct spot on the IPac. From my understanding the 3rd player right is 'L' but why would that make Mame and Mamewah exit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you opened up notepad and hit the 3rd stick left to see what it is outputting?

There is a Mame setting "use mouse" which should enable the trackball.
The other issue: either the I-PAC has been programmed with an incorrect keycode or Mame has an incorrect setting. You can easily find out which by running a keyboard test which displays key-presses and activating this control. (just running Notepad won't display the ESC key).
A good keyboard test is the one on www.passmark.com
