Okay, I'm sure this can't be done, and most people will think I'm crazy for wanting this anyway.  But has anyone listened to Sirius satellite radio's channel called "Classic Vinyl"?  Sometimes when they play a song (usually after a station ID) you hear the sound of a phonograph needle touching down on a vinyl record, complete with clicks and pops as though the record were not very clean - then the song starts to play and the clicks and pops continue in the background for just a couple of seconds at most and then fade out, leaving just the usual sound quality as though you were listening to a CD.  Could a jukebox program that plays MP3's do this somehow?

Well I'm no expect but I think it can be done with some work. I don't know per any jukebox but you would have to research that. Bascially you can start multiple streams of audio ie is I am playing MP3's on my machine and I hit a website with sound I hear both sounds. So if you had a short mp3 of the clicks and pops and could have a juke start multiple streams then the clicks and pops would last for only the duration of that sound bit, then stop and let you enjoy the song.

That is how I would look at it since there is no "Play clicks and pops" button on a juke, but I'm sure it will be equally difficult to find one that will aloow multiple streams; if that's even the term to use but you know where Im going with it...

You got the idea.  Except the MP3 or whatever of the vinyl sounds would have to start playing a second or so before the music MP3 starts playing in order for the effect to be like what they do (sometimes) on Sirius' "Classic Vinyl" channel.

Ok i can add this to freebox if you think it would be of use...

However have you tried the viynl plugin for win amp? It adds this facility and also can distort the soun slightly etc...? I think it's call zytrope or something like that.

If you want me to add it to freebox let me know, as it is just a case of playing a sample before playing a song. I can also make the time it waits before playing the song user definable... Also if you have a few different samples of the needle touching down i can make it randomly pick one each time. It wouldn't take long to impliment so just let me know.

(It is simular to the jingles feature i have in there now, excep i just have to allow over lapping of the tracks.).

Barcrest, that's very nice of you to offer.  But I would want the feature to work with WinCab since that's what I'm using now (or with Arcade Jukebox 7 if I end up going back to that).  I like have a retro-type singles-based jukebox instead of a CD-based (or album-based?) jukebox.  Thanks a lot for the offer though!

I think this is a cool idea.   The plugin, for those who are interested, is called iZotope Vinyl and is available here: http://www.izotope.com/

I haven't tried it, but I'm going to.

edit Easier and quicker to download the WinAmp plug in here: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=39214

Sounds like it; there is now a thread for this in the DOS/WinCab forum.  I can't wait!

As there are programs to add a video tag at the intro of video files, I have also seen apps that "tag" an MP3 with another audio source. Since it would be like a 2 sec. intro merged into the file, it probably wouldn't take long to merge the vinyl pop sound into a lot of files.
If I run across any of the apps, I'll reply again. I do know they are out there, though. I'm thinking a google search of "batch mp3 merge" would work.

You could simply connect a record player to your computers audio in, record some pops and clicks and save it as a WAV file, and then use a sound editor to edit them into your MP3 or other audio files, or make a script that plays the pops firsts somehow.

That would be great if you have time to email me a test version (unless the new release includes this feature)!  I couldn't care less about the touchscreen feature.
