  • I want my own arcade controls!
IPAC4 and you...
« on: March 17, 2003, 11:22:59 am »
I just completed my cabinet this weekend.  I've been messing around with the controls and I'm having a little bit of a problem.  For games like mortal combat, I've been trying to set up the button configuration but it doesn't seem to work out right, mainly because I'm not really sure what button in the menu is HP LP Block HK LK... Does anyone have an easier way to setup the controls than using the in game menu you get to via the tab key?

Any assistance is vastly appreciated

You have two problems - 1) what key does what function in MAME and 2) how do I map my controller to match what MAME expects.

For question 1, there is a controls.dat file in work, but it's not completed yet.  See http://www.fe.donkeyfly.com/yabbse/index.php?board=1 for info and to help out.  For now, you have to go to the tab key, see what buttons are used - "Button 1 - L Ctrl", Play the game and press L Ctrl and try to figure out what it does.

Question 2 is easier.  Let's say the Left Ctrl ended up being High Kick and this is supposed to be Button 3 on your panel, which is mapped to Spacebar.  So you want to set Button 1 to Spacebar in MAME, but you want to do this for all MK games and not mess up your classic games.

See http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mamecontrolini.htm for instructions on setting up ctrl.ini files for these games.  Once the parent .ini file is defined, all clones will use the same settings, and for other games, you can copy and rename the .ini files so they will use the same settings.

These are the correct settings, I played around for a while before figuring out which was what.

Mk1, mk2, mk3, Umk3, for players one and two
button 2 = hp
button 3 = block
button 1 = hk
button 4 = lp
button 5 = lk
for mk3 and umk3
button 6 = run

ugh.. i remember having this problem when i first got my hotrod... since the buttons in mame aren't labeled hp, lp, hk, etc, but instead they're button1, button2, etc... BIG pain... i went through and wrote everything down, but i don't remember what i did with it..

thanks nick for posting the correct mappings!!
