It's official.

I installed my new pushbuttons in my MAME cab and tried it out. The difference between the X-Arcade buttons and the Happs are like night and day. In a thread from last week, I said that the X-Arcade pushbuttons were "OK". Man, am I stupid. 

Now I *must* replace my X-Arcade joysticks. The last human family is depending on me.

If it makes you feel any better, I agree with you.

To save us time (my friend and I built 2 cabs at the same time) we installed X-Arcade 2-player CPs in them.  As part of our design we piggy backed the flipper buttons and installed Happs buttons on the side of the cabinet as well.  I ordered a couple extras at the time and ended up replacing a couple of the X-Arcade buttons with them, on the CP.  You can really tell the difference, they even sound better.  I don't know how the Joysticks are, but I'd imagine similar improvements.

My future project is to build a custom CP and I'm already knowing what buttons I'll be using.

X-arcade parts are NOT good substitutes for happ supers and happ pushbuttons, even though they look quite similar.

X-arcade using cherry microswitches would go a LOOOOOONG way to improve their product, but I'm sure they will stick with their "made in a sweatshop cave in indonesia for $.02 each" switches.

Xarcade sells button sets on ebay for $20.00, 2 joysticks & 14 buttons, that is way below what I pay for wholesale happ buttons & sticks, it all goes back to you get what you pay for

What I don't understand is why we get people on these threads that insist that x-arcade stuff is just as good as happs.  Who can compare the two side by side and say that there is no difference?

I tried this, actually (the switches, not the sweatshop), and it is definitely an improvement, but the Happ buttons are still better. To me, they seem to have a certain feel that says, "Authentic!" Should have just bought them to begin with...

I think a lot of your newer mame people buy a x-arcade I purchased one for the first time i tried mame & I was like ("I LIKE IT" remember robocop the guy with the gun) so within a month sold my x-arcade on ebay & built a real cab.

Hmm...I have X-Arcade buttons, and they don't feel any worse to me than the buttons on the arcade games we have at work.  They are quite a bit more "clicky" sounding, but that doesn't affect the feel.  The joysticks I'll admit aren't as good, but they are still eons better than anything else commonly sold to PC/console users.

While I personally agree, I know many who don't.  Sanwa and Seimitsu make fantastic sticks and buttons, but they really aren't some people's cup of tea.  They are different, but not necessarily "better".

X-Arcade (or more realistically, the cheap Chinese parts they buy in bulk for a few cents a pop and then mark up 1000%) vs Happ is an easy comparison.  These are the same style/design of stick and buttons, and the only difference is the quality of the part which jumps out and screams at you.

Happ vs Sanwa/Seimitsu is Apples vs Oranges.  They are both great parts, but designed for totally different audiences.  I'm a candy-whore and Japanophile, and I love my Sanwa.  I moved away from Happ some 3 years ago and never looked back.  But either way, I still sell Happ because I know so many people love them.

You're kidding, right?  Japanese is highly phonetic and based on syllable sounds.  It has to be one of the easiest languages in the world to read.

Seimitsu = "Say" "mit" "sue" (Sue -  as in the girl's name). 

It really is that simple.  Not like English, and all it's weird bloody pronounciation rules and exceptions.  You should hear my poor French mother struggle over things like "air conditioner" and "hair conditioner" with words like "honor" to guide her.

These parts are for a kids cabinet I'm giving as a gift, so I'm on a strict budget and don't care too much if they're not as nice as happs, I'm just hoping they're at least nicer then X-Arcades.

PSL (Ultimarc) has a little different material than PSL-L (Happ) they are shiny,  better colours.

You have obviously not used my pushbuttons. They are MUCH higher quality than x-arcade. They are nylon, not plastic, like x-arcade. They use high quality microswitches and do not have that particular 'pinging' sound x-arcade switches make.

One forum member even described our pushbuttons and Cherry microswitches as "a match made in Heaven".

If you want Cherry band switches they are avlaible just 10 cents more.

1. purchased from ponyboy, myself(divemaster), randy at GGG or andy at ultimarc you get a very fair price $1.30+ each we are all about the same price...
2. its usually a one time purchase my the happ buttons on my cab will last a lifetime
I just cannot see why anyone would want to use lesser quality Chinese buttons on there cab, I like the best I can get, if money is a factor then I would wait until I could afford to purchase from ponyboy or the others

I'm sure most people would agree with that. But the problem is that Happ seems to be selling buttons made by two different manufacturers. This is something I've only just become aware of. I assumed incorrectly that all Happ buttons were made by IL.

The two types of button may indeed be of comparable quality. However, according to Kowal they look slightly different and the colours don't match.

For the sake of consistency, most people are probably going to want to use just one brand of buttons on their panel. Therefore we need to know who actually manufactures the buttons you and the other resellers stock.

What about illuminated buttons, like those "Electric Ice" ones that GGG sell?  How do they compare to non-illuminated IL buttons?

I cannot comment on the GGG ones, I have not used, but happ makes a trans buttons that is exactly the same as the concave pushbuttons, but you have to install the led yourself

GGG is comperable to happs.

Dream arcade buttons are fine too if you use a cherry microswitch.  I wouldn't consider buying the buttons without the cherry microswitches.

Having purchased all these different buttons and the dredded x-arcade buttons.  My CP has IL buttons on it.
