Is it OK to solder two differrnt metals together?
« on: August 21, 2006, 04:32:33 pm »
Well I am ready to solder a chain if 20 LEDs and I noticed that my LEDs are silver in color and most wire is copper.

What metal are LEDs made of and is it OK to solder them to copper wire or, do I need to find wire of the same type? :dizzy:

They're not carrying data so it won't matter.  Worst case is that it corrodes faster than it would have otherwise but that's years away from being a concern.

I haven't had any issues at all soldering silver LED legs to copper wires.

I had an noob issue once;  I got a "leg" too hot and it came out of the plastic housing :dizzy:
Is this gonna be one chain of 20 in series?  That would need at least a 40V PSU, right?
