1 spinner, 2 trackballs, and 2 rotary joysticks?
« on: March 16, 2003, 12:52:41 am »
I am getting close to finalizing what will be going onto my cocktail cab and will probably be going with the controls listed in the subject.

I am going to go with an IPAC, and an Opti-Pac, my question is this enough?  Or do I need to order something like Druin's rotary interface as well?

Ultimarcs site states the the Opti_Pac will allow in USB Mode: One USB cable handles up to two trackballs and 4 spinners/rotary joysticks.  Looking at the closeup pic of the Opti-Pac, I see connections for 2 trackballs, and 2 rotary joysticks, and what appear to be 2 serial ports....

So my questions are, will the happs mechanical rotary joysticks go directly into the Opti_Pac or do I need Druin's interface, and where would I put my Oscar spinner?

The most I would be using at any one time, would probably be the 2 rotary joysticks or the 2 trackballs, I was assuming I would be using Mame: Analog for that reason.

Thanks as always.

Yeah, mechanical rotories use druin.

IPAC use a serial to usb converter.

the oscar spinner hooks up to the rotory part of the optipac.

Ok, cool, so a follow up question....  The Mechanical rotaries would go to the druin, which would then go into the IPAC, correct?

If I went with the optical rotaries instead, would those go into the Optic-Pac, and if so, then what would I have to do with the Spinner, just plug it into a usb port?  Or would the optical rotaries not be a good way to go?

If you get the oscar spinner with the mouse hack, the spinner then goes into USB.  Otherwise you might have to share inputs with the spinner and an optical rotory.

It dpends on the rotory games you like.  ikari warriors, heavy barrel used mechanicals.  I can't name the opticals off hand because I mainly played ikari warriors.

Excellent, thanks for the help.

Sounds like for the me the mechanicals may be the way to go then and just plug the spinner into the usb port.  I'm also a fan of ikari warriors, forgotten worlds, time soldiers, just wasn't sure if the opticals had that same "click" when you spin or if they were smooth.
