Oscar restrictor plates

I know that Oscar has been out of the business for a long time (and as far as I know has no plans of coming back).  I was wondering if there was anyone else who manufactures Oscar Restrictor plates?  And if not, does anyone know why?  Did they feel good to play on?  Did they tear up your joysticks?  I just think that some plates and a U360 or 49way seems like a killer combination.  I wish I could still find them, because they seem like a really good product.

Nope, no one else makes them as far as I know.  Your only chance of getting some would be secondhand, and they are getting a bit hard to find for obvious reasons.

Okay, as far as I know they felt fine to play on, and I never heard of them tearing up your joysticks.  They have become slightly overcome by events, IMHO, though.

The biggest drawbacks were that they at least didn't enhance the looks of your panel, and if you were playing an 8-way game, you had to store them somewhere and then figure out where you put them when you wanted to play a 4-way game.  And then there was the time involved in bolting them down and unbolting them (thumbscrews, but still).

IMHO, all of the following are better options (basically in order):

Dedicated 4-way and 8-way sticks - Most (all except Karate Champ?) 4-way games used a single centered stick, so this isn't a bad option and requires no reconfiguration.

Ultimarc E-Stick, J-Stick, T-Stick (Mag-Stick) GGG Omni-Stick - Good options if you like the feel and have access to the underside of your CP.

Ultimarc T-Stick Plus, GGG Prodigy - Good above panel restricted stick, if you can deal with the relatively short travel.

Ultimarc U360 - Should work well, but reviews are pretty mixed and too early to draw definite conclusions.

GGG GP-Wiz49 and 49-Way stick - Automatically (with Set49Way software) switches to correct mode for game with no user interaction required.

The only thing you are gaining with the OSCARS is the true physical restriction, but from what I have read, the GGG 49-way stick and interface works well without this.

Pac-Man or Donkey Kong were 4-way 2-player games, but the players alternated turns and used a single centered stick.

Assault and similar games used dual 4-way sticks, but you had to have trigger sticks for the fire buttons, so an Oscar restrictor wouldn't help you.

Basically, Karate Champ was the only dualjoy4-way stick game that I can think of offhand.

I know.  I was mainly trying to point out that if you search for 2-player 4-way or dualjoy4way on MAWS, you will get a lot of games that don't really apply in this situation.

If someone would put their Oscar restrictor plate and a ruler on a flatbed scanner and scan them, we'd have a template and could make our own - or have a machinist do it.

I don't see why not - people enjoy Dig-Dug, Mappy, Pac-Man, and so on

For sure using dedicated 4way with a true real 4 way is the way it should be played, but as there is some versatile joysticks available now , that can swith from 4 to 8 way, I'm not sure restrctors stills a good oportunities.

anyway I can have some restrictors made, I'll ask for a quote to the metal workshop.

I've got a set which includes two mounting plates, a 4-way restrictor, a Diagonal restrictor and a 2-way restrictor that can be place vertically or horizontally.

I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to using them and since there's some obvious interest in this thread I figure I'll offer them up as long as the price is right...  Now I'm not exactly sure what that price is.  Feel free to PM me.  I'm going to go see if I can figure out what I paid for them.

If I were to do that why would someone pay me for the ones I've got?     In all seriousness though, I do not have a scanner.  I might be able to use a friend's or family member's but when I might be able to I do not know.
