Top fire joysticks in slikstiks... pointless?
« on: August 15, 2006, 10:02:47 pm »
I wanted to ask what the point of having top fire sticks for the 2nd stick in the dual stick slikstik CPs.  Are there games that require two sticks with one being   a top fire?  Or just overkill.

i prefer a dedicated 8-way trigger stick, if you have the space and money. you need the trigger stick if you want to play discs of tron, because it includes both a trigger and a thumb button. tank games work very well with one trigger stick and one ordinary joystick, even better with two trigger sticks.

And just a minor clarification, Vindicators needs two buttons per stick (one for rotating the turret, and one to fire).

We reprogrammed the bomb button for the top fire stick in Total Carnage. I also used it for Zaxxon, Gorf, and Tron.

Remember that Assault joystick should be 4-way. If you use 8-way then your tank will block when you hit diagonal.

they where 3 ways I thought... I dont believe that you could move towards themself.

But then again... the drive should ignore them.

And pressing up, left, left will be up not left... the left should be left, up, up, down, down (left not up not down)

Nope, moving them toward each other caused the tank to rear up so you could launch those special volley bombs. (Remember?)

Also, moving them both to the left or both to the right causes the tank to flip over so you can quickly avoid shots, or to "strafe"

Hmm, I never played any of those games but I'm definitely interested in checking them out!

It seems those games use a 4-way for 2nd stick; any point to an 8-way stick then or do some games use 2 8-ways?

suppose the top-fire omni would be a nice stick to use, but it's pretty pricey.

nevermind!  found the nice list of games by type... a switchable 4/8way with top fire seems like a nice option.

Assault, Vindicators, Battlezone...right off the top of my head.

Yup!  Battlezone - one of my favs.  Tremendous game.

Assault and Assault Plus - very underrated.  You must have at least a 4 way for this game.  When you pull each stick out towards the edges of the control panel, your tank rocks back, like a wheelie.  When you fire from this position, it's a long range nuke which can take out many enemies from a distance!  :applaud:

Vindicators - eh.  Think you need more buttons.

Definately worth the top-fire sticks!
