Introducing my new project the Mili-cade (working name). I already completed my first arcade with a racing theme. This time around I want to do something totally different than everyone else. After about 15 sketches I came up with this concept. Its a military truck themed arcade. I will be putting a Playstation One 5" LCD Screen on the control panel, I will be putting an 37" lcd monitor behind dark tinted plexi so it remains to look like a truck when not in use, and misc. green led lightinf in different crevices.

I might leave the 'cade out of the working title and just call the thing 'Deuce and a Half' or 'Willy's on Roids'. Love the concept and am looking forward to seeing it pan out.

You have to get some working truck lights to mount on the top. Might skip the air hown...

Hey miles,...I like the name 'Deuce and a Half'. its unique in its own rights. I dont think that my family would appreciate any air horns lol Here is a cad drawing that i did today as a concept. its incomplete but it gives you guys an idea of whats ahead.

Just curious what the point of having the PS screen show the same as the main monitor. I always thought the main reason to use those was to display game info for whatever was currently on the main screen.

Properly designed, those side mirrors could make a great place to hide some LCD Top Guns, or, failing that, could make some kick ass bottle/can holders.

I am going to dissect the psone screen and wire it into the main screen but if you know a way that I can show the game info on the psone screen independently of the main monitor by all means let me know. I am going to work on the 3d rendering over the next couple of days so everyone stay posted.

As soon as I read that I had another thought. There's plenty of toy semis that have the recorded sound. Surely there's a way to implement the sound box from one of those. Get a nice double blast of the horn with those flashing lights.

Hey darkbubble!
Thanks for the ideas. I thought about how to implement the sound of a truck into this new arcade concept. I actually was thinking of adding the sound to mamewah like I did my last racing themed arcade. the sounds are easy to find online, and at startup I can have a truck engine starting sound while the lights flash, etc.

cant wait to see this one. I'm in the process of making a driving cabinet using a psone lcd screen to simulate an in car dvd screen. I'm going to be playing the driving game and have the lcd underneath the monitor to be playing music dvds. Just for show

I was thinking about an airhorn too but then I thought it might be a lil loud but using a toys sound now that could work well cant wait to see this project get off the ground

very nice concept. i'll be reading your thread a lot to see how your progress is coming along. i guess i'm kind of like a stickler on measuring stuff, but i was kind of curious to see if you have any dimensions yet, any rough ideas. i noticed you mentioned you will be using a lcd screen and stuff, so you don't have to worry about depth cause those things are very slim. will this rig go into a room, garage, game room, etc? i was just wondering if it will fit thru doorways and whatnot. with my latest build and the 27" tv i put in my cabinet, i BARELY fit thru doors in my house. i dont' know, you probably thought about that sort of stuff, i was just wondering.

Dudebozo,.....I am also a stickler for dimensions!!! the total depth as of now is 31-1/2". Although Its still in the r & d phase. I was thinking about putting it in my sons room but that may not be a good idea. I may wake up at 3:00 in the morning to pacman sounds,...lol well the family room is the second place that i may put it. The last cabinet i build barely fir through doors too. but i learned from my mistake. thats another reason that i wanted to use a slim lcd monitor.

Ok guys, here is a basic cabinet mockup. There is alot of detail missing but this is the forst go-round so bear with me. I am actually thinking of making the shell of of polystyrene and using resin to harden it. Then I will prep for paint. What this would do is allow all of those straight edges to become curved. This will make the cabinet look more smooth and aerodynamic. Also I have not incorporated the light guns yet along with some other things. I will continue working on the cabinet mockup. stay posted

First let me say that this is a killer idea for a cabinet! If the finished product comes out anything like the mock-up, it's going to look real nice.

Second, I've decided to incorporate a few PS1 screens into my cabinet as well and hopefully can save you some time in the hacking/troubleshooting department. I received the displays last Saturday and proceeded to test them with my ArcadeVGA S-Video out as a secondary display. The composite signal works, but left a little bit to be desired in the picture quality, so I then did some research on hacking the VGA input. I found these links to be very helpful:

The most helpful was the last link which was the method that finally produced an image after a few hours of messing around. Even with the ability to display an image, I'm still unable to have my ATI video cards (Radeon x800 PCIe and Radeon 9250 PCI) detect the display. The only way I can get an image to come up on the LCD as a secondary display is to plug a different monitor into the video card, enable the secondary display and then plug the PS1 LCD into the secondary display. I didn't fool around with it too much after getting an image to finally display, but I believe the key to having the ATI cards recognize the display is in the first link, under the Monitor ID Detection section. I hope to play around with it some more this weekend.

I've also been unable to get the Radeon 9250 PCI card to work with the ArcadeVGA AGP card installed in the same computer. I'm not sure if there's a driver incompatibility or what, but I thought I'd let you know in case you're using a similar setup. ~~Maybe now that Andy has come up with a PCIe version of the card, he can implement a dual-head card too.~~

OK, I completely missed this the first time I checked out the update on the Ultimarc site. It appears the new 9250 based cards are dual-head - sweet!

Hey art-ki-tech or fiscap, I'm thinkin of using a PS1 screen in something too, do you have your screen gutted? Would you mind measuring the height and length of the viewable screen for me? Also, how is the viewing angle on those screens?
