WTB: Spinner Knob
« on: August 15, 2006, 12:28:34 pm »
I'm looking for a spinner knob (preferably aluminum) to replace the cracked dial on my "frontline" style control.  It has a 1/4" shaft.  With Oscar out of business, what are my options?

Thanks,
John

Hi,

Yes, there are options. :)

Apache Controls offers spinner knobs that will work with any standard 1/4" center shaft. These are High quality precision machined aluminum knobs that come in one of four different colors: RED, BLUE, BLACK and SILVER.

As with all products we offer, they are in stock and ready to ship.

David, no offence, the knob looks really nice, but your shipping prices......there must be some mistake I guess ?

Almost $60,- for shipping something so light and tiny to The Netherlands can't be right ?
And that's the cheapest rate !

Agreed, It is $11.00 to Pittsburgh, PA. For something that weights less than a pound this can't be correct.

Hey guys,

At Apache Controls we do our best to accurately charge only shipping costs to our customers, even international shipments. This is important, as we ourselves do business with those who provide the same courtesy.

With the high price of gas in today's world, shipments both international and domestic will be more expensive. This is an unfortunate reality.

Check for yourself to see the rates via www.ups.com.

Here is an image off the UPS website with rates to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Click the following link for the whole page.
http://www.apachecontrols.com/UPS-Estimate-08162006.jpg

Our carrier of choice is UPS, but if any customer would like to use a different carrier for whatever reason, please contact us (support@apachecontrols.com) and we'd be happy to assist shipping via a different provider. We have done this in the past with other customers, and will continue to do so if people have a preference other than UPS.

If there are other suggestions on how to make this process go better, please let us know so we can improve. :)

Thanks,

  David

Mmmm, well you better put that info up on your website else you're going to loose a lot of (international) business.

I think even the price for shipping it within the USA is way too high. Let's face it, an aluminium knob like that weighs close to nothing and is tiny. You can easily send it in a bubble envelope through regular USPS mail. I bet shipping it to Europe would then cost less than $15,-, priority airmail.

I've ordered several things in the US (last thing was 2 Suzo Inductive joysticks + a pinball knocker, so a lot heavier and in a box. The postage for that was around $17,-

It's amazing that USPS can still handle these prices considering "the high price of gas in today's world"......come'on Dave, you don't believe that stuff yourself do you ? Yes that could be a couple of cents more, not 10's of dollars....

David, your spinner looks like a great quality product, I'm not critizing you or your product, I'd just think you'd get more business if you could offer alternatives to the default shipping. As you indicate you do, but don't forget people could very easily be turned off by the high shipping quotes from UPS.

Hi guys,

Let me try to add a few more thoughts on this topic.

Shipping from Apache Controls includes a few additional things worth mentioning.
  1. Quality packaging materials
  2. Delivery confirmation with Signature
  3. Package tracking
  4. Insurance

This is done to ensure customers receive their items on-time and in factory working condition.

We do not make any money on our shipping as there is no markup what-so-ever on shipping.

This is a company policy which will not change.

Agreed, this additional information on shipping will be added to our website soon so that folks who want to use alternative delivery methods can contact us for specific arrangements.

Great idea!

As time goes on, shipping from Apache Controls will most likely include additional default carriers. But this will be done only when a specific carrier can help deliver value to our customers above and beyond shipping with UPS today.

Thanks for the feedback.

  :)

Awesome to see apache willing to work with the customer on special shipping options. This oozes of great customer service and I will absolutely be patronizing their business in the future.

edit: whoops, was going to recommend usps as well, but didn't catch that ya beat me to it :)

http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm?from=home&page=0061calculatepostage

I tried US->Netherlands and set the package weight at 1lb:

Airmail Parcel Post      4 - 10 Days $17.50

Seems a heck of a lot more reasonable!

FYI,

If it's just a spinner knob, then wrap it in bubble wrap put it in a usps global priority mail envelope, and ship it to the netherlands. $5.25 and done.

My $0.02 is that you may find that international folks will frequently prefer another carrier as nobody likes the $30+ brokerage fee that UPS charges for customs clearance.

Cheers.
