Narrowest usable CP dimensions?
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:21:35 pm »
I'm just curious, what's the narrowest CP dimensions still usable for a 2 player 6 button setup at least in everyone's experience? Just 2 joys, 12 buttons. I'm constrained, let's just say that...   Thanks

25.5" and no less!

My buddy and I both converted cabs. I used a nintendo cabinet - 21.5" and he used a Wide body - 25.5". The difference is night and day.

I was bumping into him playing mario bros on my 21.5" cabinet. On his 25.5" cabinet, during the mockup phase it was clear that 4" made all the difference.

While I can put 1 joystick and 6 buttons in a street fighter layout on a 21.5" panel - it wouldn't be comfortably playable by 2 average sized grown men.

Here is a pic of his panel and you can see his whole cabinet at  http://bleemus.spaces.live.com/

24" is about as narrow as you'd really WANT to go, widthwise.
That is the standard measurement on classic cabs, and is a bit on the "friendly" side.

Well, I was hoping you'd say something around 24" because unfortunately that's that size I've got to work with.  I have things about as spread out as they can be, but I'm not a small guy. Maybe I need small friends, or better yet, girls!  ;)

Not to mention they won't beat you at Street Fighter.

24" will be real tight. Let us know what you think once you've built it and played on it! Good luck.

Slightly angle them away from each other, and you can fit them in a smaller space.

If you are both turned slightly away from each other your elboes wont bump.

Yup......my CP is 60 cm too.

Any smaller and you can't play without being in the way of eachother...

I was just about to ask this question!

I want to make a desktop cabinet and hoped to be able to make it 2 player.
Thinking that anything more than 500mm (about 20") wide  might look odd for a desktop?

Has anybody seen a 2 player 12 button desktop cabinet before?#

I may be able to get away with adding another 1". I'll check the plans and see if I can squeeze it in. It'll make the width 28" which is pushing it for getting in the doorway, even with the door off the hinges.

remember, the wider you make it, the worse if feels for 1 player games, especially if you're not packing a 25" screen.

if it's primarily for fighters, go for the additional width, but you really should be fine at 24-25", IMPO...
