GeForce3 working at 15khz...good enough or not?
« on: August 09, 2006, 10:18:05 pm »
I have a Geforce 3 working with my arcade monitor in 15Khz (using powerstrip). I'm still fiddling with getting the right resolutions for each game (images seem way too big). Does the simple fact that my video card seems to be working fine at 15KHz mean that I do not need an ArcadeVGA, and that my only remaining hurdle is configuring all the resolutions? (I am not sure if outputting at 15KHz is the main technical hurdle for non-ArcadeVGA video cards, or if it's the actual resolutions)

Said another way, is there a possibility that the ArcadeVGA supports certain resolutions that my GeForce3 does not? Should I focus my time on configuring resolutions, or just toss my Geforce3 and get the ArcadeVGA?

Thank you!

If you're willing to spend the time on the resolutions, you can get good results with what you've got.  The Ultimarc cards are easier, and you don't have to use PowerStrip or AdvanceMAME, but you can make what you've got work, and save some $$.  Up to you, time vs. money.

Good to hear. I guess it's just a matter of patience at this point in getting my resolutions correct. Here's the resolution problem I'm having. Could I still have the same issue with the ArcadeVGA? (Already having my GeForce3 working at 15KHz, would I spend the same amount of time configuring resolutions as I would with the ArcadeVGA?)
