Mala Problem...Help!!!
« on: August 03, 2006, 10:33:58 am »
Hi everyone,

I am pulling out my hair here for the last two nights :censored: I am using the latest version of Mala and using Mame32 and a Nintendo NES emulator. I am using a separate layout skin for each emulator. Everything is in the correct folders and under the GUI layout tab everything points to each other correctly. The "auto layout switch" is activated and the box for emulator is checked. I also have the box checked for "use layout names for directory names" and all the names match the folders correctly. I know this because everything works fine if I use the "standard space" layout for Mame and a different skin for my NES. When I exit one emulator and go into the other one, the PROPER LAYOUT for each emulator is displayed and everything works fine.

Now my major problem :banghead: I DON'T want to use the "standard space" layout for Mame and when I replace this layout with ANY other layout that is different than this one, the separate emulator layouts DON"T STAY SEPERATE when I switch emulators. I either get the layout for my Mame setup or the layout for my NES setup.

One other thing. Forget the NES emulator for now. If I am using the Mame emulator and I am using the "standard space" layout for it with the "auto layout switch" activated and the box for emulator checked and the "use layout names for directory names" box is also checked, after I click OK, my Mame emulator displays fine and the "standard space" layout is displayed like it should be. BUT if I switch that Mame layout to ANY other layout and keep all of the settings the exact same as above, when I click OK, my Mame emulator will display showing that "STANDARD SPACE" layout again, which is not correct :banghead: NOW, if I go back in the "options" GUI and I have that "SAME LAYOUT" selected as listed above that switched back to the standard layout for whatever reason...This time, I DO NOT ACTIVATE the "auto layout switch", the "emulator box for that is NOT checked, the "use layout names for directory names" box is also checked and now when I click OK it will display the PROPER LAYOUT that I had selected. It's when I activate the "auto layout switch" and check the box for emulator, that makes my Mame emulator display the default "standard space screen" for my Mame emulator ONLY.

What is going on here and what do I have to do to fix this major problem. Am I missing something really simple here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

UncleT has written a very good guide for setting up MaLa - take a look and see if the answer's in there:

The layout for MAME must be named 'mame.mll' and the layouts for all other emus must be named like the emu if you want to use the layout switch. If MaLa doesn't find a layout for an emu or MAME it will create AND use the default layout.

Hi...

Thanks to you guys for replying to me. Unclet, you helped me out yesterday and I really appreciate it. This was a diiferent problem and Swindus hit it right on the head. I had my MAME folder named @Mame. I switched it to Mame and everything is fine again. Thanks to you all :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
