Most popular console mame seems to be the one that runs on the xbox.  There are others but looking at the most useable setup.

Do a search and you might find more info re dreamcast version.   The dreamcast plays its own games very well but seems to do poorly on emulation.

Dreamcast was the EMU god before xbox came.
Xbox is kinda the Dreamcast's spiritual sucessor...
You can find lots of emu for it, but you have to find a dreamcast ported version, you couldnt be able to just use MAME or MAME32, have to have MAME DC.

buy a cheap xbox and have someone mod it. Folk on ccraigslist will do it for as little as $30 if you bring your ow HD.

as for dreamcast...check here...
http://www.dcemulation.com/

it has been a while since i ran mame on a DC, i dont even remember how well it worked.

i dont have an xbox in my cabinet, but i do run mame on my modded xboxes.  it works really well.  if you dont have the cash for a modchip, softmods work pretty well.  i have an xecuter 3 chip in one of my xboxes, and an xecuter 2 in the other.  But i just softmodded my little sisters xbox the other day and it works fine.  took 10 minutes, didnt have to open the xbox, very simple.  and now it can run mame.  either from CD or hard drive.  there is only a 10gb drive in an xbox, so that isnt alot of space, but you can always add a bigger drive (although I havent tried it with a softmod)

I just fired up the latest release of MAME for DC this week.  It was released in June 2007... Looks like there's some new interest in MAME on DC.  So the future looks bright..  One thing about mame on DC.  Don't think that your going to run the lastest and greatest game... It works great for classics(pre 1992), but DOGGGGG slow for the new stuff.  Like Mortal Kombat and up...  But it rocks for all the native games and classics... Can't go wrong for the price... And the frontend rocks...

I also have XBOX's with TSOP hack($0 cost), but i haven't tried to put it in a cabinet... But MAME on XBOX is pretty good considering its 700mhz celeron...

Whoever said that the Dreamcast is no good for emulation is talking through their Ahole..... Clearly not a Dreamcast owner.

Try: http://dcforums.co.uk

You'll find a lot of DC torrents there... including quite a lot of information and a lot emulator disks that run on the DC very well indeed.

DC Mame was cool when it came out, but there is a new kid on the block that is soooo much better and the speed is excellent.

The compatibility is great and there is so much to choose from.  When you consider that you can get a DC for

For games like Street Fighter II, where it uses 6 buttons plus a start button...

What do you use for the coin button?

Does it just set the games to free play by default?

Since my DC cab is setup in  a SF layout, pretty much any coin button would be located akward like.

Most DC Emulations use the right trigger as the coin button.

plus with a dreamcast, you can play Ikaruga.  That is reason enough to have a dreamcast in your cabinet.
