27" Betson Problem - Random numbers on screen
« on: August 02, 2006, 09:48:21 am »
Ok I finally got all my computer stuff ready to go.

Got my AVGA card installed and hooked up my Betson for the first time.

It was blurry so I ran the tri-sync utility from Ultimarc and set it for 640.  Image and flickering blurriness went away.  Yay ! ;D

Then I launched Mala.  Worked fine.  Then I chose a random fightnig game.  I think it was X-men vs Street Fighter.  The game launched but when the screen "sync'd"(?) i got a whole bunch of random numbers 0, 5, 7, 1 ...  most were black. Some were different colors, some were flashing. They were random over mostly the right side of the screen. :-\

The game played fine, but the numbers stayed ... even when I got out of MALA.  So I rebooted and they disappeared.  I Launched the a different game ... no numbers.  I launched that same fighting game ... no numbers.  So I thought "Hmm guess it was an initial adjustment or something".  Then I Lauched Dragon's Lair .. Numbers are Back! :banghead:

BUT, this time when I got out of the game they went away.

So my question is ... Does anyone know what the heck that is?
.... then my daughter said "Daddy, those games are old."

that ain't a monitor fault as such, only thing i can think of is onscreen freq settings are showing or some sort of game corruption

Weird.  If you really want to troubleshoot, try a bunch of games in Vanilla MAME w/o the Front end and see if that's still an issue.  Heck, try with a different computer if possible.  It doesn't sound like a monitor issue to me.  If it was the OSD popping up information, I'd imagine that the numbers would have the same blue background as when you bring it up to make adjustments.

Oh - and a different video card for testing may also be a good idea.  I don't have an AVGA personally, but the more you can isolate potential problems while troubleshooting, the better you can figure it out.

Well late last night I was messing around with some res tools.

While I was adjusting the monitor settings w/ the monitor controls (ie not the res tools .. resizing).  It pulsed once when I was not pushing a button and about 6-7 0's showed up on random parts of the right side of the screen.  I exited everything I was doing and got back to the desktop.  They were still there.  Then while I was sitting there "pondering" if I should re-boot.  They just went away.

I launched a fighting game to test (and to let out some irritation :P) and no numbers everything was fine.

It was a lot less numbers than the previous day.  Maybe it will work itself out in some kinda of Monitor voodoo way :dizzy:

Maybe power?  the pulse makes me think that maybe I need to test that outlet and/or the UPS I am using.
.... then my daughter said "Daddy, those games are old."
