What's underneath my Time Pilot sideart?
« on: August 01, 2006, 11:39:53 am »
I just picked up a time pilot on ebay, and have been having a blast with it.  anyways, a couple things seem a little weird.

It is a woodgrained cabinet, and has information inside that denotes it as a time pilot with a serial #.  The art seems a lot lighter than pictures i usually see online, but it's completely uniform and otherwise shows no damage.  both sides are the same light color.  If it was faded by sunlight it's a miracle that both sides and top/bottom came out the same - - baby blues instead of blues, pinks instead of reds.

Here's the weird part:  The side art has a ridge about 1 inch inside of itself - -  There is another decal underneath the Time Pilot sideart, one that follows the contours of the cabinet the same way, but an inch smaller all around.

Does anyone have any idea what that is, or am i going to have to (gasp!) peel back the decal to find out?

and as a bonus question, where can i get matching woodgrain covering or laminate???  i have a nice crack near my coin door.

thanks!

It's possible that the sideart underneath is Time Pilot art as well.
If the cabinet is marked Time Pilot on the inside, I would suspect that it shipped as a Time Pilot.
If the original art got defaced, it's possible that the op decided to install new decals directly over the old ones.

Another possibility is that it was supposed to ship as something else, and was a last minute factory conversion, due to the popularity of Time Pilot.

That would be my guess.  I shot pictures, but none of them do a good job of showing the shape of the art underneath.  I'll have to root through klov and see if i can find what centuri cabinet it could have possibly been intended to be.  I know that the decal only fills the top half of the cabinet and is more angular than the time pilot art.  the bottom of the decal follows a slight (5 deg) angle down towards the back of the cabinet.

edit: checked out klov...  the leading candidates for the art are Challenger, Pleiads, and Route 16...  my curiosity will most likely get the best of me.
