i have serious problem with gold rod where you screw in the wood screw. it will no longer tighten when i screw it in. i can easily pull it out.

anybody had this problem and is this repairable? or do i need to get a new base?

You might be able to get a local machine shop to tap new threads in it.  Maybe for a slightly larger size screw.
