Questions regarding #8 wood screws!

Hey guys just got some questions about #8 wood screws.  I found a good website online that sells them in boxes of 100.

They have 1/2", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2" and 2".  They have some more as well.  Hey the thing is they don't sell the 5/8" or the 1 1/8" screws.  Any of you other guys using the Project Arcade book ever use the 5/8 or the 1 1/8" #8 screws?

Also anyone know any other websites that sell screws cheap.  Home Depot is expensive.  I pay $1.98 for ten.  The site above has like 100 screws for $4.00.

I didn't need any 5/8" or 1 1/8" #8 screws when I built my cabinet off of the Project Arcade book plans.  Also, I still have a pack of 100, 1" #8 screws that I didn't end up using.

I buy screws from Menards, but always in packs of 50 or more.

Buy a box of drywall screws - they don't strip as easily.   Plus, you'll get a box of 100 or so for a few bucks. 

I think the 'two dollars for ten' screws are some specialty type that aren't meant for construction - because I bought wood screws at first and they weren't nearly that expensive.

Thanks guys.  Those wood screws did pretty good for my saw board I made.  Home Depot ain't going to rip me off on no screws!

Yeah, definately buy your wood screws in boxes by the pound, not in counted containers or out of the "one at a time" bin. Machine screws are a bit different, because you generally only need a handful of those at a time, but anything you use in bulk should be bought in bulk.

Buy a box of drywall screws - they don't strip as easily.   Plus, you'll get a box of 100 or so for a few bucks. 

Drywall screws work very well and are relatively cheap.

I do recommend getting a #2 drywall phillips bit for your screwgun. The bit sinks deeper than normal screw bits because the tip is not as pointed which will cause less stripping of screw heads. Works with all types of #2 phillips screws not just drywall screws.

OK guys...I have GOT to share this story...

When my wife was younger (16-18..not sure of exact age) her father was building a gazeebo and he ran out of screws. He sent my wife to the hardware store for some "wood screws." She goes to the hardware store and wanders the isles for several minutes until an employee comes up to her and asks her if he could help her. She says she is looking for wood screws. So the guy takes her over to the wood screws and says here they are...she says no...I need "wooden screws" and looks at him like he is a moron. He just giggles a bit and says...these are wood screws. She proceeds to argue with the guy and ends up using the store phone to call her dad and ask him about these screws. He just says...pay for the screws and come home dear....

I could totally see my wife doing the same thing...she is clueless about building stuff.

The screws I got at HD were priced ok.  Got a box of 100 3/4" #8 screws for around $4.50.  The 2" long ones were around $4.50 for 50 of them in a box.

Obviously, the longer the screw, the more expensive they are.  And of course, buying in larger quantities is the better option.
