Hey Randy, on the site you said use device #1 if it is your first device and 2,3,4 for additional ones. I bought 2 for my 2 49 ways. How do I know which is the #1 and which is the #2 Wiz.

He usually writes on the USB port of the encoder "1" or "2", etc.

C'mon myx, it's obvious that kiddk1 accidentally posted that to this thread.... I mean, he didn't *mean* to hijack the thread, he just accidentally wrote that note, then accidentally hit the post button.

Unlike me, I *meant* to hijack the thread.

Ok, where were we? Oh yeah... trying to find the device number on the board. Where is that printed again?

If you plug it in it should tell you under gamepads in the control panel.

I do not have any numbers like that on my board. Mine basically look identical.

Hey what are you hiding with that big black box?  ;D

I remember reading the device number on-screen when I attached it (probably in the help bubble by the system tray when you attach a new device).

Randy would not want to pay to produce 4 different pcbs with different ID#s screened onto them, the costs would be conisderably higher.  Using a permanent marker to put the # onto he USB port's metal housing could work, but none of mine have this.

At any rate, it's easy to check- plug one (not both) in, and go to the control panel, look under "gamepads and joysticks" or whatever it is, and the ID# is listed right there.  Now is the time to label it if you want.  Then plug the 2nd one in, and watch it appear in the device manager and note it's ID# as well.

Thanks for fielding that one, Kremmit.

I have been marking the ID numbers on the USB connectors as has been stated.  Evidently, a couple must have gone out without being marked.

However, there is a way to tell.  :)

If you look at the label on the chip, you will see a dot in one of the corners;

Device 1 = No Dot
Device 2 = Green Dot
Device 3 = Orange Dot
Device 4 = Blue Dot

If I can find the space, I'll see about putting a device number checkbox on the next batch of boards.

kiddk1:

If you are the individual that started having problems after removing his trackball for repair, I would look at your wiring.  Chances are high that something in your wiring is shorting.  If that isn't you, my apologies. It's difficult to connect screen names with real ones sometimes.

Is it possible that you sent me two no dotted pieces? I can not find a dot on these. I plugged them in (one at a time, not both, like Kermit said) and when I look at the control pannel / Game controllers , it shows GPwiz49 status OK but nothing else. I unplug the first and plug in the other and get the exact same thing.

I just pulled up your order.  It seems that you ordered both as device number 1, which would explain the absence of the markings.

If you need to have 1 and 2, then I can swap one of them for you for the costs of shipping.

Let me know,
RandyT

Naaahh.  It's a somewhat common error.

I've tried a few different ways to convey how to select the device number, but none of them seem to work very well.  Sometimes I email back with an "are you sure?", but a lot of times people buy more than one of the same device because they are building more than one panel.

Is something that is set internal to the chip, or is it something I can solder a jumper to?
How much is the shipping? I have to order some RGB Drives and sumore LEDs. So I will place an order tonight and if it is ok I will add the extra shipping to it.

It's internal.  Send me an email and we can work out the details.  We should be able to do this with minimal expense.
