Monitor...Red all but gone.

Hey all,
I have a buddy with a leathal inforcers cab. The red was really dim when he bought it. I boosted it up as much as I could without redding the whole screen. But even then it was not great. I went to see the game during lunch as he was not able to shoot anything. Red is completely gone. Now, seeing that the red has dissipated to nothingness, is this a candidate for a recapping, or is this the point where we need a new monitor.

Also, anyone know if this is a 25 or a 27 in. (it is the version with the back mirror)

Those typically had a WG K7000.....but you need to verify the one you are working on to be for sure what modelit is.
Find any kind of labeling on the chassis itself and then maybe we can go from there.

I have a similar problem with my upper monitor in my Punch-Out machine (Sanyo 20-Z2AW), though probably not as bad as what you describe. The reds are pretty dark and boosting them from the onboard pots makes everything else look out of whack, and doesn't brighten the reds all that much.

I've asked about it here and on other forums before but I never really got a solution. Maybe two birds can be killed with one stone in this thread?

I'm guessing the tube needs rejuvinating.  When colors get weak that's usually the cure.

I will be going over there tomorrow to look at it closer. It is a hard one as the monitor is facing straight up. So all the info is straight down and the access pannel on the back is no where close near where it should be.

I did not know if there was a general answer.

It is a WG 25K7191. Is the 25 meaning 25 inch?
I had to pull the monitor completely out of the cab to get a look at it. Friggin heavy and a real bad angle to have to lift that kind of weight. My shoulder and back are mad at me right now.  I left it out as it will be easier than the ol in out in out.

BTW, It is the version that has the remote board. don't know if that makes a difference.

i have had the same problems with tubes mounted this way e.g operation wolf-what happens is fragments fall onto the guns and short them out thus rendering the tube useless but i have on two occasions repaired this problem-i removed the tube and gently(VERY) tapped the area around the guns on the tube thus dislodging the fragments giving the tubes more lifespan,but you will always get this problem with tubes mounted this way-if you attempt what i have done then please be careful if you tap too hard then you crack the tube neck,if you don't tap hard enough then you will not dislodge the dirt-also i would like to add that i am not responsible if you crack the tube

I agree...... I have actually done it myself with power applied so that the heaters are up to operating temperature, with the monitor laying face down, lighty tap the neck tube near the gun area. 
Not super reccomended for everyone to try, but in a pinch it's worth a shot.
This is basically what the rejuvenator would do. (just not as good)
But of course not everyone has one available.
A local TV repair shop may have one and be able to "shock" it for you for a small fee.
I've had to call on one of our older local shops before and had them come out.

Yes... 25in... and they are a pain in that cabinet position.

Once you have done this, wont the dirt fall back into it?

yes but it could take a day,month or more than likely a couple of years-did this with a sanwa on a naomi cab two months ago and its still going strong,cheaper than buying a new tube

It's a game of chance anytime you start having internal tube issues.
Especially when they are mounted horizontally that way.
The loose particals may fall and stay away from everythng, they may fall and short another gun. (50/50)
Worth a shot though, compared to a replacement.
And new 25in tubes are harder and harder to find, most likely end up buying a used one anyways. (or another monitor)
