Question on yoke dimensions
« on: March 11, 2003, 11:04:14 am »
My yoke came without the "box" part at the back of it, that connects to the control panel.  I was wondering if anyone had a good picture with dimensions of what size this should be.  Also, any opinions on how to make this -- should I use metal or wood, how should I connect it to the cp, etc.

I was looking into using a metal project box from radio shack, but wasn't sure about how to form it to the way I'll need it.

Thanks

Troy

can you take picture of what you have?  I don't understand the "box" part in the back...

I have a star wars yoke that's not currently mounted I could take pictures of/take hand measurements...

I  have the metal control panel too.. it's really just a metal plate with a square cut out and 4 mounting holes to bolt the yoke onto the CP...

I too am having difficulty conceiving how I'm going to mount my yoke in a removable fashion from my cp.

Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera handy.

So, here is a picture of a star wars yoke on the actual game.

Now, in my searching for a good picture I found this one from Jude's Star Wars yoke page.

What I have is the yoke minus the entire plexiglass stand that keeps the yoke stable and would also be able to connect to my control panel (in a fashion that would make it easily removable).  That is what I need to somehow construct.  I'm not sure if this is something that the yoke normally came with, seeing as how it is attached in the first picture, so odds are that someone has done this before and knows of the best way possible.

The more I look at this I now realize that in the original game the back part of the yoke was bolted to the control panel and was left exposed on the other side of it.  So, it looks like more of an issue of creating an encasement for the back end of the yoke, which doesn't sound as difficult as what I was thinking previously.  Still, any great ideas on the best way to do this from other people's experiences would be nice

Now, for the fun part, making it modular.  I have this along with a pair of steering wheels/gear shifts that I want to include as modular units.  1up seems to have a pretty good idea on this, so maybe I'll go off of that: http://www.1uparcade.com/arcade-hardware.html (near the bottom of the page)

Yeah... that lucite box wasn't part of the original... also note that, that example is a ROTJ yoke/panel (it's smaller)...

Please share whatever you come up with...
