Need help making a Stargate reproduction.
« on: July 07, 2006, 06:10:04 pm »
A friend of mine is a huge Stargate fanatic and loves my Mame cabinet.  I've decided to try to make him a Stargate reproduction cabinet and use the Multi-Williams layout so that he can play Stargate and Robotron (the only other game he likes).  Here's the problem I'm having...I can't find measurments for this cabinet anywhere.  I searched and searched on this forum and every thread that seemed promising is a couple years old and full of dead links.  Jackobud used to have plans (including Stargate) but it's now down.  I can find a lot of pictures, but no details about measurements or the internal structure of the cabinet.  I'm hoping someone can help me out with the basics so that I can get started on construction.  What I need:

Exterior dimensions of the cabinet.
Interior dimensions (or detailed pictures) of the support structure.
Side art templates (I found this http://www.localarcade.com/arcade_art/details.php?image_id=153&mode=search but it's not a template.  I don't want to print out the side art, I want to paint it on like the original).
Color codes (I found these: http://www.appolo.com/colorcodes/stargate.htm but it looks like they're latex base paint with spray-paint logos.  I'm not sure how well this will hold up and would prefer to use all oil based if possible).
Detailed pictures of how the control panel attaches and secures, as well as a source for the panel itself (or enough details that I can make one myself or have a metal worker bend one for me).
A bezel graphic.

Can you guys help a brutha out?

zorg set up a mirror of Jake's EPS plans and has other plans as well. A search for Jakobug and zorg will find the link.

I mirrored zorg's mirror until Jake is back:

Cheers.

this one is easily turnable into stencils, it will allow you to paint the cab.

I would say go the google way in order to find the detailled pictures regarding pannel assembly and details

regarding the CP maybee the CPO can help for some infererences regarding how the pannel is
check AAL for the CPO

Thanks a lot for your replies, guys.  Those plans help A LOT.  I still haven't found any good pictures or measurements of the interior bracing, but I may have to fudge that a bit anyway since I'll be using a CRT or LCD, not an arcade monitor.

I was able to find a reproduction bezel (it's not the same as Defender unless it was a conversion) and CP overlays are easy to find, so that's taken care of.  Or, at least it will be once I get my ducks in a row and order everything. :)

The only thing I'm really missing now is the details of how the control panel hinges and latches.  I always thought Stargate used a metal CP, but apparently it's actually wood.  If anyone has an original Stargate machine at home and could provide details or pictures of the latching mechanism, I'd be most grateful.  I'm interested in how the CP is held to the machine, and how the glass is held in place as well.

For the sideart, you can get stencils from Brian Jones (ProK).  He has a tutorial at:

http://www.rgvac.com/projects.asp?projid=22

He sells his Stargate stencils at his other site:

http://www.oleszakcreative.com/store/shop/item.asp?itemid=15

His work is top quality and his rgvac site has tons of great tips.  I used it heavily when I did a Joust restore last year - before he had stencils available.
