If it's still freezing/blue screening, it's sounding more and more likely to be a hardware problem than an OS one...  If it was me, I'd try removing the sound card if you have one installed and see if that helps any.  Also try swapping network cards, assuming you have an extra.

windows 98se.

i have a p2 300 mhz running winxp right now as a surf box. it functions ok for surfing the net but truth be told win98 on it was way better. mame ran all kinds of games great. now alot of the games that ran previously great run really choppy.

I have noticed for alot of mame games as well as os operating systems it comes down to memory alot more then processing power. I really wish I still had a win98 disk. it was such a great gaming system.
