wouldn't that depend on the trim level i.e. varient of that card? I imagine you can get radeon 7000 as plain vga, tv out, svideo out... etc... (that's just a common sense guess on my part)

Is there a link to what you were thinking of getting?

it probably makes little sense to hook your console up to your monitor BY WAY OF YOUR PC/vid card... It would make more sense to use a VGA adapater to your pc monitor ... although if you end up using svideo out to your tv from your hypothetical radeon 7000 card there'd be little reason to interface your console to your PC in that manner.

pls specify console and your reasons

if its higher picture quality your not gonna get it threw video input

but on xbox ps2 and gamecube you can get native vga threw use of a transcoder click game consoles on the left for details

xboxvga.com sells a component to rgb transcoder for 80 bucks standalone but it will only work with progressive images so that takes out 98% of your ps2 games and 50% of your gc games and xbox well maybe 2%

converters from redant will be just as bad as the videocard input (you'll have to get the all in wonder version)

the xrgb2 is pretty good for just about everything although it doesn't support progressive scan at all and just line doubles everything

I do want to play my PS2 and other systems on my computer screen.

The video cards I've looked at were from Amazon.com and Office Depot.

I'm also looking for a card to boost the framerates on my MAME games.  I have a AMD-K6 3D processer, running Windows 98.

depending on the video card you have currently... you'll only really see a frame rate improvement in mame with a faster cpu (which probably neccessitates a new mobo in your case)   Although it'll sparc some debate, you may be able to get a modest frame rate boost by running DOS mame in pure dos on an older chip like yours (but it's more of a pain in the neck to configure/get working properly depending on your hardware)

you've sorta cleared up what you want to do...(sorta) but can you explain why you'd want to do that? (play mame on tv AND constoles on SVGA and versa vice) are you making a cabinet or trying to ? or ?? or huh??

I have no videocard right now.  I have tried adding extra RAM, but it did nothing.

Anyway, I am still deciding if I want to build an entire cabinet.  I want to play MAME games on a TV screen, so I know they'll work when and if I build a cab., and because I'm sick of seeing every pixel (which really distracts from the games).  I want to play console games on my comp. monitor because with my N64 and PS2, I'd like a clearer screen to see the games on.

What the heck are you talking about???  Why do you want to run console games on your computer monitor and computer games on your TV???  Wouldn't it just make sense to run the comp. games on the TV maybe and the console games on the TV??  Better screen size right?  Or am I missing something...

the radeon 7500/8500 all-in-wonder's can do s-video or composite >in< which is what you're looking for. regular radeons only do video <out>

Thanks.  Thats what I was asking about.  Just to make things crystal clear:  So if I get a radeon 7000, that would mean that I wouldn't be able to play my PS2 on my comp. screen?

I did a lot of research on the ATI Radeon 7000.   If you buy a true ATI branded card, the 7000 comes in several different forms.  You can get PCI or AGP, 32 MB or 64 MB, with or w/o S-Video out.  But not a single variant has Video  >IN<.     Non-ATI branded radeon 7000's *might* have video in, dunno.

I ended up buying an ATI Radeon 7000 AGP 64 MB sVideo out, for $70 at Microcenter.  I love it.  But no video in...


Also, I do have another card with S-Video >in< on a Mac.  I've connected the PS2 there, and it looks like crap.    general rule is that Consoles will look better on TV, and PC games better on PC Monitors.  

If you try running a PS2 on a PC monitor, you will see all sorts of little defects...  it looks real bad I tell you!
