  • Oh Tyler, save me! Deliver me!
When I first started getting into owning a cocktail cab, my idea was that Id buy one.  One of my top choices had a switch located in the coinbox that could toggle whether the machine accepted actual coins for play or used buttons to start games.
As I learned more about Mame and this community I became hooked on the idea of building the cab myself, but I dont want to scrap that idea.
My questions to you are
Has anyone here ever tried to do that? How? Did it work well?

Sure.

The coin mechanism has a momentary switch at the bottom of it which the coin trips as it goes by. (so it's basically a button you push with a coin)

If you take the two wires to that momentary switch and extend them to another momentary switch (button), it will also work to give one credit.

If you want to put a toggle between them so that only one or the other works, just bring the wire to the PC board (game board or encoder, whichever) to the center pole of the toggle switch, and the wire to the coin mech on one side and the wire to the button on the other.  Then you can toggle between them.

i have it that way on my mame cab, its a little switch inline between the control panel and the ipac, the coindoors always add one credit just the add credit button is "shut-off-able" just a real simple on/off switch i had lying around, works great. i did it so i can limit the kids playing and use the tokens like rewards....
