OMNI-Stik PRODIGY and CP Overlays.
« on: June 29, 2006, 01:49:11 pm »
Greetings,

First time poster and first time MAME cab builder.  I have been lurking here for the past few months.  Enough Intro  ... down to business   :P

Has anyone had any experience doing a flush install of the OMNI-Stik PRODIGY type joysticks with an overlay?  Reason I ask is the 4-way/8-way switch.

I am worried about the switch maybe causing the Overlay to peel up.

(of course I could just mount is over,  but I thought I would ask)
.... then my daughter said "Daddy, those games are old."

Just to check exactly what you're after....
were you planning to make the mounting plate flush with the CP itself (routing out a shallow square) and having only the switch show through the overlay
-or-
placing the mounting plate on top of the CP, so it's flush with the overlay around the mounting plate.

vorghagen:

Flush to the CP.  Overlay over top with a slot(?) for the switch action?

kiddk1:

Yeah I will be getting my overlay from Mamemarquees.  I wanted to use that polycarbonate(?) stuff so I could skip the plexi/lexan.  But with the switch being ... well  "switched" back and forth was just wondeing.

Excellent, pretty much exactly what I'm planning on doing with my CP. I've had a good look around and it seems there shouldn't be any problem with peeling as long as you make the slot for the switch 2-3mm wider than needed, so the metal leverdoesn't actually rub against the overlay. It will make the slot a little more obvious but that's far better than having the overlay peel.
Let us know how it all turns out.
Cheers.
