game name?

Since you guys are so good at this. This game is old school (very old school, probebly descret logic, in fact I'm almost sure it is). I hope the discription is correct as I havent seen it in 20+ years it was one of the first games i played in an Arcade.

I think you where a Pilot of some sort shooting at ground targets, with a low flying plane passing under you from time to time. it had a yoke (old school, not starwars) to stear you left and right while the screen scrolled below you from top to bottom. I cant remeber what you shot at on the ground, tanks? fuel tanks? something like that. I seem to remeber the ground was photo realistic ( like a black and white photo scrolling by with the targets being block objects (think the houses at bottom of space invaders) placed on the screen. the game was black and white, it alsmost seems like a River Raid was copied from it ( except no river in the original game im talking about). I do not know if you had to shoot stuff for fuel or aything like that. this game would be one of the first in arcades, around Space War, atari Night driver and Space Invaders time 9roughly).

any ideas?

Yeah pretty interesting...I wonder what this 'special circuitry' was?

"Sky Raider used special circuitry to squash the image to a trapezoidal shape. This created the illusion of objects getting larger as they swoop out of the sky."

Well i knew there was something strange about the ground, my poor memory and I thought "photo realistic"  well i see I was off on that a bit, but for the time that game had some Eye popping grpahics for the ground. That is waht stuck out so much in my memory. I just cant belive how fast somebody came up with the name (let alone a picture of it).

I technically cheated. I went to KLOV and looked up all games from 78 (since you said it was contemporaneous with Space Invaders). Then clicked anything that sounded like it involved airplanes. You described it so well it didn't take much to zero in on it.
