Donkey Kong Coin Door/Mech
« on: June 26, 2006, 01:30:32 am »
Hey Everyone, Im building a Vs. Super Mario Bros. Cabinet (exactly the same as the Donkey Kong cabinet, just horizontal layout, and artwork), but I cannot find a coindoor and mechs for it anywhere! Im making a complete replica of it, and I am worried that I may never find anything helpful  :'( ... Any Suggestions/Information?

The dedicated Vs Unisystem cabinet that Super Mario Bros would have been in is a bit different than a DK, but the Unisystem was also available as a conversion kit for DK, DK Jr, and Popeye cabinets. The two actually used different coin doors too. Here's a good comparison pic from a flyer:

There's also been some talk of Nintendo cabs over in Arcade-Misc in this thread:

eBay and post a WTB in B/S/T and on RGVAC/M.

Other than that, ArcadeShop stocks these:

Which look slick but are not original.

Cheers.

Cabinets like Donkey Kong used a coin door made by Nintendo Japan (and it's NO LONGER AVAILABLE), but the actual coin mechs (KWM-740 coin 'selector') were made by Asahi Seiko (www.asusainc.com). Cabinets like VS Dual System and R Type used the usual over/under coin door and mechs made by Asahi Seiko.
