Without knowing more details of your setup, it's impossible to give you advice.

Is this an actual arcade machine? Mame machine?

If it's an arcade machine using real arcade boards, invest in a power strip and  turn it on/off that way.

If it's a Mame machine, there are 1,000 threads dedicated to wiring up a power button.  Do a search.

I thought I heard somewhere that you could get the elusive "button" somewhere out in Jersey but I can not confirm this.

mah bad,

if you are using a PC, open the case and find the backside of your power button.  there will be two wires coming from it.  You will tap into those two wires (you dont even need to disconnect them)

You hook those wires up to a regular arcade button (like on your control panel) and locate that button somewhere out of the way so you dont hit it on accident.

wah and lah

Also, there is a "search" button on the top of your screen in this forum.  If used it will provide links to much clearer explanations than mine.

Here is what I've done with my mame machine.

I setup my computer to bootup on power up. I've setup the front end to power down the machine on exit. I have a power strip that I turn off after turning off the front end. If I want to turn it on, I just flip the power on the power strip and the machine fires up.

If you want an actual button just use an extra control panel button. You want something that doesn't stay "on" constantly, just a quick little "on" signal. Hook either wire from the PC button to the ground terminal on your button and the other one to NOF (normally off).

Cool - in the Bios is where I turned on the option to "power on boot"

The front end I use is Mala - it offers the ability to shutdown the machine after shutting down the front end (by default done with esc + 1 player).

By doing this, I don't have to physically turn on/off any computers. I use a central power strip. It's not the most elegant solution, but it keeps me from  having to open the machines.

NO is actually normally open. As in an open circuit. NC is normally closed.

If you do a search on my posts you'll find a solution I made to get the machine to power on.

It involves a 10uf capacitor (16V) and attaching it to the power on pins on the MB.  Works like a charm.

You can also use a smartstrip, which is what I use.  I have an arcade button wired to the power swtich on the computer, when the computers on, everythings on, when I turn the computer off, everything turns off (by everything I mean monitor, speakers, marquee light, etc.).  Search the main forum for smartstrip if you want more info on it.  I tried searching the wiki, but I couldn't find anything on it, seems like there should be a chapter on power since it comes up often.

One of the cheapest easiest solutions is first make sure your PC will power up when it detects power.  It is a BIOS setting and most of the later PC's have it.   Second using your power strip open it up and remove the on/off swith.  Any electronics store should have a on/off toggle switch that you can solder in where to old switch was making sure the amps are the same as the one you removed.  I found one for $3..  Just extend the wires to where ever you need.

Click the VORTEX sig at the bottom of my post to see how I did it.  It is one of the later pics.

Good Luck
