repair help with my Gottlieb pinball machine

Ok, I have a beautiful Charlie's Angels pinball from 1978.  It has been serving me well.  Until several months ago - the score displays do not show the score brightly enough to see.  If you turn the lights out and get up close - you can make out a faint score being displayed.

I followed the directions on how to recharge the display over at the marvin3m.com site (http://www.marvin3m.com/sys1/index.htm#display).  I ran the proper amount of electricity through the displays for 5 seconds and tried to burn off any oxidization that may have been in the displays - but it didn't improve.

Any ideas on what else it could be?

i would imagine its some kind of voltage supply problem if its more than one display,maybe something like a smoothing cap or a bad connection

I would have to agree......

Unplug three of the four displays.
If it improves with just one hooked up....check your power supply feeding all the displays.
This includes checking for good grounds also.

I would assume if there was a problem with the displays themselves the problem would have showed up slowly and one at a time. (individually)

You probably know this already but I'll just say it anyways.  Make sure the power is off when you unplug the displays.

Also check the connector pins.  System 1's are notorious for bad connectors.

Rebuild the power supply board and check it for bad solder joints (you'll probably find some).
