Hmmm, doesn't seem like the console market would be the first place to leverage this kind of technology. This would be more usefull in a server than a video game.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

I wonder how much a system like that would cost. And I wonder how much success they could have pushing into more PC-related fields which already seem to be Microsoft's domain. I fhtey can pull it off then I say go for it. I think they hit the nail on the head when they made the PS2. It not like it's so much worse than the X-Box, and the game library is so much larger.

Given the choice between a 9-rated system with a ton of games and a 10-rated system with a few good games... gimme the 9.

Oh yeah one other thing... Gamecube blows.... If they don't get it right with their next game system they might become just like Sega and we're gonna start seeing Nintendo titles on the PS3.

Spoken like a true gaming newb.  Nintendo makes the best games, with the highest quality, period.  I would rather buy 3-4 phenominal games a year than a buttload of mediocre shovelware (that comes out for all the systems anyway, minus GTA..).  Even final fantasy is coming to GC/GBA.

so true about Nintendo...

like the N64 (may it rest in peace) - there weren't that many games for it, but around 60%-70% of them were pure quailty...compaired to the PS, which had shedloads of games, yet only around 25%-30% were actually any good...

I'd still say that the xbox is on top at the moment - it's so powerful compaired to everything else, and easy to develop games for.
gamecube comes second, just because of the quality games (ok, so they don't look as good as xbox games, but what the hey....i still play pacman, as i'm sure many of you do!)
PS2 comes in last, same probs as PS, lots of games but most of em are pants (and it has naff DVD quality playback)

Well I guess that's where it turns into a matter of opinion again. I have a hard time finding Nintendo titles I actually enjoy these days. Those new Metroid games kinda sucked and I was expecting them to turn out good. The new Zelda looks kinda crappy too. I have a GBA I never play and they're about to release a new one where the only advantage is a backlight (which is something they should have figured out 10 years ago).

There are very few games for Game Cube that I would like to play. The old characters and franchises are finally starting to run out of new ways to make old games. Now if Squaresoft starts making exclusive games for the Game Cube then maybe I'll consider getting one. Otherwise, it's got nothing for me.

And I'm hardly a "newb". I've been playing console games for 17 years or so. Maybe there are a few people out there who can say they've been playing longer than that, but even if that's the case... big deal. That's still a long enough time to make an educated decision.

If there was 1 perfect system then everybody would have it. That's why we have 3 contenders that each have a market share. However, Nintendo hasn't put out anything to brag about in a very long time. And if it weren't for Nintendo games on the Game Cube, would anybody even be buying the thing? I mean what other GREAT games are there that are exclusively Game Cube.

As for the XBox, it's a very capable piece of hardware, but the games just aren't as good. Then again, it goes back to opinion on games. The XBox does have a couple of exclusive games I actually like, but Playstation 2 has more. Sure they have a whole bunch of crap... Big deal. If you don't like that game then don't play it. There's still a whole bunch of great games for the Playstation 2 (more than any other system) and you can't hold it against them that they have additional games you'll never play.

As for the games that are on multiple consoles, XBox wins. Then Playstion follows and Game Cube comes in last. I think most people can agree with that. But you still have to look at the remaining games that can only be found on one console and that's where Playstation wins.

XBox is a better machine and beats Playstation in similar games, but until they get better exclusive games then Playstation is going to be better. I do, however, think that the XBox actually has the potential to be better than Playstation. (Just not yet.)

I still feel like the Game Cube is a joke. How can you take a lil purple box with a handle seriously? It looks like a purse... :P And aside from the looks (since that doesn't reeeeally matter), what absolutely great games does it have?

Ignore the shovel ware if you must. Those games don't matter anyways. Add up all the good games left over and you'll see who comes out on top.

Ninendo's focus has always been about spending time to make quality games for their systems, and licensing other companies to make sure they dont release shite that makes their systems look bad.

Sony's focus has always been world domination; to put console systems into everyones homes that can do billions things, as well as play games. It's just that nobody ever really used any of the other features because they weren't up to par with competing products. Now, with the PS3 underway, they're really throwing some serious moolah at it to try and make it 'hub of the household'; the only piece of electronic equipment you're ever going to need! (Bar a TV, but then again it might have that too.) Cha-ching $$$!

I can see it now... its going to record dvd's, play mp3's, answer the phone, wake you up, do the dishes, feet the cat, take out the garbage and wipe your bum - ALL voice activated. But when little Johnny goes to play his burnt games from bali on the PS3 and it throws your garbage in the dishwasher, wakes you up at 3am, tells you to F-off and sticks the cat up your bum don't say I didn't warn ya!  ;)

"Now if Squaresoft starts making exclusive games for the Game Cube then maybe I'll consider getting one."

-As far as I know, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals is going to be exclusive.

"if it weren't for Nintendo games on the Game Cube, would anybody even be buying the thing?"

-Probably not nearly as many people.

"Those new Metroid games kinda sucked"

-Metroid prime only won game of the year by almost all the respected publications... But then again, it's personal preference.

"The new Zelda looks kinda crappy too."

-Don't knock it until you've tried it... I played the import the other day... There isn't a game out that looks as good as this one does.  It plays like a dream too..

I would disagree with you there. Nintendos focus has always been on quantity of games and trying to control the game market. They started slipping when they ignored the 16 bit game space and have been trying to make it up ever since then.

Nintendo trying to control the game market, yes.

Focusing on quantity rather than quality? Dunno. Sometimes. Maybe. Nintendo always seems to take longer than most to release games. They didn't give themselves much room to work with the 16bit storage issue, but they probably had less people selling pirate versions of their games - and thats why the Gamecube has specialized media also. Most sony games probably would have fit on a 16bit cartridge - minus the cinemas and music. Removing these 'distractions' forced nintendo to focus on the only other thing they really had left - the game. For it to compete in the game world something had to stand out, and quality gameplay was all they had and was usually the winning factor. (That and its bright colours attractive to small children.)

Later on though, the quality of gameplay had risen across the board (well, generally) and nintendo was no longer attactive. As 'fate' would have it the console evolution would begin again, and the circle continues, with nintendo somehow still clinging to its top software houses. Maybe its all just clever marketing; to have your system really die out at the end so all your previous customers can now come and buy your new system!

I never really played nor liked nintendo. The last console I bought was a Sony years ago.  ;)
