Well I guess that's where it turns into a matter of opinion again. I have a hard time finding Nintendo titles I actually enjoy these days. Those new Metroid games kinda sucked and I was expecting them to turn out good. The new Zelda looks kinda crappy too. I have a GBA I never play and they're about to release a new one where the only advantage is a backlight (which is something they should have figured out 10 years ago).
There are very few games for Game Cube that I would like to play. The old characters and franchises are finally starting to run out of new ways to make old games. Now if Squaresoft starts making exclusive games for the Game Cube then maybe I'll consider getting one. Otherwise, it's got nothing for me.
And I'm hardly a "newb". I've been playing console games for 17 years or so. Maybe there are a few people out there who can say they've been playing longer than that, but even if that's the case... big deal. That's still a long enough time to make an educated decision.
If there was 1 perfect system then everybody would have it. That's why we have 3 contenders that each have a market share. However, Nintendo hasn't put out anything to brag about in a very long time. And if it weren't for Nintendo games on the Game Cube, would anybody even be buying the thing? I mean what other GREAT games are there that are exclusively Game Cube.
As for the XBox, it's a very capable piece of hardware, but the games just aren't as good. Then again, it goes back to opinion on games. The XBox does have a couple of exclusive games I actually like, but Playstation 2 has more. Sure they have a whole bunch of crap... Big deal. If you don't like that game then don't play it. There's still a whole bunch of great games for the Playstation 2 (more than any other system) and you can't hold it against them that they have additional games you'll never play.
As for the games that are on multiple consoles, XBox wins. Then Playstion follows and Game Cube comes in last. I think most people can agree with that. But you still have to look at the remaining games that can only be found on one console and that's where Playstation wins.
XBox is a better machine and beats Playstation in similar games, but until they get better exclusive games then Playstation is going to be better. I do, however, think that the XBox actually has the potential to be better than Playstation. (Just not yet.)
I still feel like the Game Cube is a joke. How can you take a lil purple box with a handle seriously? It looks like a purse...

And aside from the looks (since that doesn't reeeeally matter), what absolutely great games does it have?
Ignore the shovel ware if you must. Those games don't matter anyways. Add up all the good games left over and you'll see who comes out on top.
