  • I EAT PENCILS!
My wife would freak if I bought a computer for my cab in progress because of a new baby on way. So I collected and bought parts from Friends. Only the the hard drive is new. I have a book on how to stick it all together. But I know that installing Windows will be more tricky than the book reveals.

Anyway is there a forum that is like this one for computers?

    • GOPODULAR!
What version of windows are you going to use?  It's not that bad doing an install on a new drive.  Run whatever is on the floppy/cd that came with the drive to partition & format it.  Then run windows install.

Then remove all the crap (AOL etc).

What version of windows and what hard drive?

I'd suggest the following:

1) Sign up for the freecycle (on yahoogroups) within your area.
2) Check out craglist in your area.
3) Watch E-Bay
4) Watch for yardsales.

???  He already has the PC... why would he need craigslist or ebay?

Rackoon, this link should help you out: http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/
Once the system is put together (correctly), installing XP is nothing more than a few clicks and button presses.  Read up a bit and google "build your own PC" and you'll find all the info you need.  Good luck.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

To purchase a cheap, yet legit copy of windows? I didn't see the unedited first message, but judged from the rest of the thread that he didn't have windows and may have asked where he could download a copy or something (due to Saint's message).

So I was offering an alternative way of picking one up.
