My cabinet plans (link to pics) & how to mount monitor
« on: June 05, 2006, 10:32:49 am »
After searching the web for a nice set of cabinet plans I decided that what
I really wanted was the Quasicade FX2 seen here...

...but I ain't paying $4500 for a MAME machine no matter how nice the
cabinet is.  I talked to a cabinet maker (custom home interiors) and he said
he would build me a cabinet if I gave him the plans.  I'll have the cabinet
built from oak and stained to match the gameroom decor (pool table, bar,
etc.)

Quasimoto ain't giving up their plans, so I drew up a close copy using
Microsoft Excel and some line drawings.

Here's a look at my plans:

Front

I'm thinking that I could have the marquee facade routed out in the center
and have a back mounted and lighted plexi marquee.

Side

The shelf for the controller is designed to mount my Slikstik control panel
(Classic-sized custom unit).

Rear

One big door that comes off fairly easy.

Now I need some help on the interior.  I'll be using a 27" TV monitor for
starters, maybe going to a 27" arcade monitor some day.  I'll remove the TV
tube from it's plastic case and construct some sort of mounting system.  I'd
like to build the cabinet with a good mounting structure that will
accommodate a 27" arcade monitor and then adapt my TV tube to that mount structure.

Does anyone have some detailed drawings of the interior structure that is
needed for a 27: monitor mounting?  Will a strip of wood or aluminum down
each side of the cabinet, fastened to the sides of the cab, be enough to
support the weight of a nearly 100lb monitor, or does there need to be some special bracing on the sides where the monitor mounts?

Use these plans if you like them, and if you see areas that need improvement please speak up.  I'd rather learn from someone else who has done this before than build it wrong.
