Arcade "Literature"???
« on: May 28, 2006, 12:57:09 pm »
So I'd like to have either a small bookcase or at least a shelf in what im calling my game room with books about arcade cabinets, and classic games and such. In addition to encyclopedic type books id like some on art, anybody recommend books to get?

Two of my favorites are Arcade Fever and Supercade. For building a cabinet get Project Arcade

Ah excellent, exactly the kind of stuff I'd like to have on hand. My cabinet is almost done (just need to buy a monitor and make a bezel), but I was thinking about picking up project arcade so i have it for anybody who sees mine an has an interest in doing it themselves.

Another vote for "Arcade Fever" by John Sellers.

I also have various old PC Game Manuals, like Robosport, Space Quest Companion (someday I'll beat all those games!), Civilization I, II, III, etc. on my shelf.

But my all time favorite Arcade resource is my William's Arcade Classics cd-rom.  :applaud:

Edit: that cd really helped me to rediscover/renew my interest in the games of my youth. I never realized that 90% of my favorite games came from one company.

Here's a wacky idea to fill out that shelf:

Get a blank book or a coverless book that fits the theme, or print out a bunch of game manuals or something at half-page size.  Then get an old 2600 cartridge box and get the book library-bound with one of those transparent covers and use the cart box as the cover art.
