Computer PSU Pinout?
« on: May 26, 2006, 10:04:08 pm »
As a result of a previous thread, I will be using an additional Computer PUS to supply power to my audio amp as well as other misc. circuts. My question is this... There are a BUNCH of wires in a bundle that run from the CPU to the motherboard. Are these standard? Are the colors standard? What do all the lines do (if they are standard)?
I will need to trick the PSU to think that it is always on and I have read (somewhere???) that if you cross line a to line b it will think that it is been turned on. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks

Great that solves that. Any ideas what the rest of the pinouts are for?

First link on google.  A cursory inspection against what I rememeber of the pinout seems to indicate it is correct.

The colors are semi-standard.  Orange seems to always be 3.3V, Red is always 5V, yellow is always 12V, black is always ground.  After that there seems to be some variation.  Blue and gray/white are usually used for the negative rails, and green seems standard for the power remote.  Many PSUs will have a label on the side telling you what each color is.
