Donkey Kong Cabinet Plans
« on: May 24, 2006, 09:32:22 am »
Since Jackobuds site has been down for awhile now I was wondering if anyone here has a copy of the plans for a Donkey Kong / Nintendo cabinet.  I'm wanting to build a replica cabinet (Mario Brothers Cab over in the project anouncements has got me cleaning my garage to build cabinet #2).  Any help would be appreciated.

I've been interested in this too.  I want to build a small version of dk cab, but have been waiting for the jakobud site to come back so I could get the plans and start working on shrinking them...

I'm not sure what format would be best (I can't remember what formats he had available, I think I remember an illustrator .ai file and maybe a jpg file... was there a cad file as well?  Would be cool to have a cad file of the cabinets :) )

Would love any help with this too (and maybe an update on when Jakobud might be back up, I remember seeing the thread saying he was planning on getting his site back up, but I wonder if he knows when that might happen).

I have temporarily (e.g. until Jake comes back or tells me to take them down) mirrored the EPS versions on my site:

Thanks to zorg for the original mirror.

Cheers.

EDIT: If folks have other versions, please PM me and I'll put those up as well.

any decent imaging program should be able to open them. Photoshop, illustrator, paint shop pro, GIMP, etc.
yeah, that's right.

I've heard good things about InkScape recently (an open source vector graphics program).  I've never used it since I do have illustrator, but if I didn't have illustrator, I would definately check out InkScape (http://inkscape.org/).

Not sure if they do .eps files, but it's a pretty good bet.

Can someone tell a CAD newbie how you are supposed to use these EPS files?  I opened them in paint shop pro, but I don't see anything like angles or accurate measurements that would help in scaling.  Or do I just need a better program to use these?

Couldn't get inkscape to work with EPS files...FYI.

Of course I could be doing something wrong....wouldn't be the first time :banghead:

Did you try to just open the .eps file?  Maybe see if there is an import menu (probably under File -> Import) and see if you can import an eps instead of just opening one, let us know if that works...

Hmmmm,......:( well, I 'thought' that paint shop pro could handle them fine....

I'm sure it can, but maybe it's just not as obvious how to get them to work how you need as it is in photoshop or illustrator. I use those two programs much more than paint shop pro (ok, I can't count the # of times I've used Paint shop pro on one hand..), but when I open an EPS file in PS, it immediately brings up a dialog box to ask me at what resolution and DPI I want to open the file. And that way I can get it up as big as I want, and then I can always shrink it down later if I need to, etc. even after working on it some.

So, try looking for some options for what size to open the file when you are loading/importing it. *shrug* again, that's been my experience, but I'm no graphic designer.
yeah, that's right.

paint shop pro (latest) works fine for me. Remember to uncheck the "trasparent background" box on the pop up that comes when you open the file.

Strangely M$ Word 2003 can see them if you add them as images.

Not that it helps as you can't zoom in on them properly.
