Searched the fourms/Faqs and no luck-
« on: March 04, 2003, 08:31:57 am »
I am looking for some kind of write-up on how to install a Happs trackball. My cp is 3/4 inch wood and I need some help as I've never done this. I have found some pics but it seems that every site that discusses building a cab./cp skips the process of mounting the trackball. :( Any help much appreciated.

EDIT how about here?

Basically you use the mounting plate (you did buy a mounting plate, right), although eightbit and few others got by without a mounting plate, but mounting plate makes it straightforward how to proceed.

Basically you cut the football shape out of your panel, drill holes for the outer mounting plate bolts/posts.  you use the inner bolts/posts to connect the mounting plate to the trackball, then slide in the whole assembly and fasten the mounting plate to the control panel. (of course I assume you have some way of wiring the trackball up) That's the basic gist.  If you look at a mounting plate, your trackball, and your control panel it should make sense, but skim those previous threads for interesting info like trackball orientation and flush mounting tips.

EDIT2: PS HEY! wait a minute... YOU started the previous thread. arg!

Doh! I need to slow down and learn to "read" not skim. I did not get a mounting plate (I purchased off of ebay for great price) Sorry to waste time going over the same things but I want to do this right :)

You can do what ever you want (regarding the trackball mounting) but I suggest getting a mounting plate.  I belive bob roberts has them if you wanted to avoid the dreaded 25 dollar minimum at happs (although some of use never have a problem with minimum spending at happs, quite the opposite =P ) I believe they are around 7 - 12 dollars regardless of where you get them.

EDIT: Some people have used lexan to mount their Tballs but, eh... not sure how I feel about that... also if you knew someone in a metal type shop and showed em I'm sure they could whip something up for you... (or you  could try mounting it sans mounting plate)

ok, now I'm confused....If I get the Happs Trackball mounting Kit, do I also need to get the Trackball plate? I think not, but I want to be sure.

I notice all the Americans go through the Happs web site to buy.... Do your larger cities not have a distributor out of one of the bigger amusement companies? My city has a happs distributor... I just waltz in, pick up whatever I want and that's it. No shipping charge, no $25 minimum. It just seems odd that you have to go through mail order in your own country and I'm in a different one and don't have to.
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

The US is a big country. Do all the cities in your country have a Happs distributer? Your just lucky thats all.
