Centipede cabinet out in the rain (!)
« on: May 23, 2006, 09:40:47 am »
I've got an opportunity to get a free Centipede upright.  About 2 months ago it had a monitor, but apparently the guy's nephews got ahold of it and busted the monitor.  I haven't seen it, but apparently there are glass shards sticking out of it.  And on top of that, it's been outside for who knows how long.  The guy said it used to work, but I don't know what that means.  My brother-in-law spotted it and said the particle board is swelled up pretty bad.

I guess I can salvage some parts and junk the cabinet (unless the particle board is not as bad as he says, in which case I'll restore it).

The question is, are these things sealed well enough that the boards inside may still be good?  Anyone rescue a cabinet that's been outside for a while?

Doubtful....I've seen some stored in a old warehouse, that still sufferend moisture, and rodent (yuck) damage.

Good luck, but I wouldn't get your hopes too high....or your offer price.

Why is always a poor Centipede that gets left out in the rain? This thread makes me sad.

Forget about the cabinet. Go harvest the marquee, control panel, boards, wiring, coin doors, marquee brackets, etc, etc...
NO MORE!!

Yeah, why doesn't anyone leave a Tekken 7 or a Street Fighter Turbo Extreme Alpha Championship Edition 8 out in the rain?

Most likely the reason why it's free is the unspoken agreement that you haul it off and he doesn't have to look at it anymore.  He probably wouldn't be too happy if you took everything of value and left the decrepit pile of rotting particle board in his backyard for him to dispose of.

The guy left a classic cab out in the rain ... who gives a hoot whether or not he is happy ?

J/K ... yes, the OP should haul away the carcass as well ... just be sure to get the parts.

I'm going to check out this cab this weekend., so I'll let you know what I found.  I hope there's something worth while since I live 50 miles away.  It's all too often that what is described is not what *I* see.

For some reason I don't feel too good about it.

More to come...
