Links in the side frame only work once!
« on: May 18, 2006, 10:43:35 pm »
Since the last round of ie patches came out, the links on the left of byoac only work once.

For example I can click on "msg boards" and then click on "wiki" later on and nothing happens.  No progress bar of the page loading, no "click" sound, no nothing.  I can confirm that this isn't just happening on my machine as I've asked around.

Seems to only effect IE, whatever it is.

Hmm... it's very basic html, with only 1 javascript entry. I'll look at it but it's not using anything fancy ....

With respect that isn't a solution at all.  The whole idea is to always have the side-bar in tact so you don't have to go to arcadecontrols.com everytime you want to navigate to a diferent part of the site.

It does have something to do with the messagebaords interacting with the rest of the page though as the error doesn't occurs until you've navigate to the messageboards.  The simplest solution would be to have the msg boards link open up in a new window by default.

Maybe the best thing would be for you to live with it.

I been using this place for 2 years and never had any issue with the side bar. It's just a click away if it dissapears anyway.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

Is there a reason why you don't just use Firefox then?

Yeah.. firefox sucks.  ;)  I suggest everyone use what they want, but when the most widely used internet browser in the world isn't working with the site, the solution isn't to switch to another browser.

Howard's right - I need to figure out what's happening and get a workaround working.

The messageboards seem to do some other strange things when they are active as well.  It's minor things but it leads me to beleive that "somthing funky" is going on.

If you have the byoac messageboards up and a google gmail page up at the same time the gmail page totally freezes until you close the boards.  I don't think it's a big deal, nor do I think there's anything that could be doenabout it, but I thought I would mention it as it might help you figure out what is going wrong.

Personly frames is very sucks, and normaly have problems with it (so I allways avoid them, when I creating pages).  The most comen problem is the back button is set out of function, and just reload the page. A method I so very hate, when they does.

The sidebar seen to need a rewarp with a more modne design, since it look a years old page. It need a rewarp with a new php based design, so you can remove frames completly...

This is because arcadecontrls.com basely have 3 very defficent page designs, but should been hold to once.

It may been better to use a dynamic javascript based top or sidebar instead, and include it on both wiki and forum? it only a idea, and can be a bad idea. It would been more integreated. These dosent take much screenplace, and can use the same links as well.

Yeah.. firefox sucks.  ;)
I agree. How about this site?

Holy hell. Talk about arrogance/elitism/cult-like-devotion-to-an-idealistic-browser (of all things). The funny thing is, it isn't even true. If you hit your back button in IE (before that Firefox worshipping page redirects you to a download site for Firefox) the page loads fine. I don't even think it is possible to design a site that works perfectly with Firefox but not IE, not on a functional level anyway (discounting underhanded methods like simply arbitrarily blocking IE based on its identifying itself as IE).

Apparently that site is more concerned with promoting Firefox than they are with having people visit their site. Blocking the brower that most people use is ridiculous.

heh agreed.  Or it might have something to do with the fact that A@H has been a virtually dead site ever since byoac came on the scene and they don't really care about losing visitors since nobody visits anyway.

I never have understood the preference of ANY browser over ie and here is why:

IIS standards are followed by all browsers.  Microsoft has expanded the IIS standards, adding it's own unique tags and features, the others haven't.  Therefore, the ONLY way to view a site and be 99% certain that it'll display properly is to use ie as it supports the most features and tags.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I'd rather use a browser that loads the pages faster and loads them properly than to have tabbed browsing and mouse guestures, which nobody uses anyway or to have some kind of sick satisfaction that I'm screwing Microsoft (which isn't true as ie is just as free as any other browser).  Since ie 7 uses tabbed browsing, that isn't an issue actually.
