Arcade Cocktails - The OTHER kind
« on: May 18, 2006, 02:28:03 pm »
Since some day I am actually going to finish my cocktail cabinet, I figure I'd better start planning the christening party now. And what better way to celebrate the birth of a new Cocktail cabinet than with a slough of new cocktails?

Unfortunately, the 80s were a low point in cocktail culture so I need to make these up myself. The one rule I have (and it's subjective, I know) is that they need to taste good, which to me means just strong enough to taste the spirits and not too sweet.  I do have a few ideas:

The Frogger (just a renamed Leap Frog http://cocktaildb.com/recipe_detail?id=3296)

Shake in iced cocktail shaker & strain
3/4 oz fresh lime juice (2 cl, 3/16 gills)
1 oz light rum (3 cl, 1/4 gills)
1 oz apricot flavored brandy (3 cl, 1/4 gills)
1/2 oz grenadine (1.5 cl, 1/8 gills)

I made this last night and it was tasty enough to have another (Use Fees Brothers grenadine, or even some pomegranate syrup, not the other stuff). It looks like a ton of grenadine, but the lime really cuts the sweetness here. It comes out blood red, so I dropped a lime wedge in for a frog garnish. Game over!

The Ms Pacman

This one is still vague, probably something with lemoncello since I made a ton this year. As soon as Bing cherries come in season I'm going to buy up a jarfull of twins and start them soaking in Brandy for the garnish.

The Donkey Kong

While it's tempting, no creme de banane in this one! I'm thinking either go with Mario and make an Italian drink, or go with Kong and make something bourbon based (What else do you think is in those barrels!). A flamed orange peel garnish seems de rigueur.

The Asteroid

Rocks, and lots of them! It might even be fun to mix up some normal size ice and some crushed ice. The drink almost seems superfluous. Maybe just something simple and clear like a gin and tonic.

The Pole Position

I can't believe there isn't already a Racecar cocktail. Maybe a sidecar or one of it's variations. A little checkered flag as a garnish would be a cute touch.

Tapper

Some wise guy always asks for a beer.

Marble Madness

I'm thinking just a Gibson, but use a red cocktail onion instead of the standard white.

Other ideas? Maybe a Robotron or a Spy Hunter? Looking at the BYOAC Top 100 I see a bunch of possibilities:

Galaga, Joust, Centipede, Gyruss, Tempest, Defender, Tron, Dig Dug, Gauntlet, Galaxian, Missile Command, Time Pilot, Elevator Action, Scramble, Moon Patrol, Mr. Do!, Track & Field, 1942, Gorf, Phoenix, Qix, Berzerk, Burger Time, Stargate, Battle Zone, Rampage, Xevious, Dragon's Lair, Sinistar, Zaxxon, Q*bert, Space Invaders...

You are a very sick man!

I just swill my vodka from the bottle. :dizzy:
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

A Spyhunter is an easy one...... It's a Vodka Martini Shaken Not Stirred!!! 007 Style.

There's already a Dragon that you could call Dragons Lair.... It's a Red Chili Vodka with a touch of Grenadine... and has a float of Irish Cream Liqueur on the top.

For Space Invaders... Figure out how to mix a Pangalacticgargleblaster ROFL  :laugh2:

The Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster :
1. Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.
2. Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V. (Oh, that Santraginean seawater. Oh, those Santraginean fish!)
3. Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (It must be properly iced or the benzene is lost).
4. Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it. (In memory of all those happy hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia.)
5. Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qalactin Hypermint extract. (Redolent of all the heady odors of the dark Qualactin Zones.)
6. Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. (Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian Suns deep into the heart of the drink.)
7. Sprinkle Zamphuor.
8. Add an olive.
9. Drink . . . but . . . very carefully . . .The effect is like having your brain smashed out with a feather. Wrapped around a large gold brick.... Never drink more than 1 Pangalacticgargleblaster unless you are a 30 ton meggaelephant with bronchial pneumonia.

Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.
And research indicates that Space Invaders are strongly attracted to people who have recently eaten meat pies.

Seems like "asteroids" is just the Arcade Coctail way of saying "on the rocks"
