New WinIPAC Version
« on: May 16, 2006, 04:36:36 am »
I have just uploaded a new version of WinIPAC (The software used to design control panels and download custom keycode configs to I-PAC and J-PAC boards).
Improvements:
Even faster download. PS/2 takes approx 2 seconds, USB is instantaneous.
Timeouts when using with non-English keyboard settings fixed.
Improved error detection and reporting.
I-PAC VE board keycode assignment problem fixed.
Many small improvements in the GUI although the general look and feel is unchanged.
Available from www.ultimarc.com/download.html

Any changes necessary to the IPAC boards to use the new software?

Provided the board is post Jan 2004, no change is needed.

Andy,
I see no mention in the docs of the required "/program" parameter that was required to actually upload the IPC file from the commandline using the previous version. Is this not required now or were the docs just never updated when the guy wrote the last version of the software?

I'm confused. if I've got an Ipac pre 2004 should I upgrade the software or stick with what I got?  Thank you.

Pre-2004 boards should not upgrade, but keep existing software. These boards use the original WinIPAC software which did not have the panel design feature.
All Mini-PAC boards which have the on-board self-test LED can use this new software. Older boards without the LED need to keep existing software.
The method of sending an IPC configuration to the board from a command line is simply run the program as "Winipac.exe myconfig.ipc" etc. There is an optional "/verbose" switch which causes the GUI to display during command-line download.
A full list of command line options is displayed by running "winipac.exe /?".

Except that the old software does not work under Win2K.  The last time I wanted to reprogram my IPAC, I had to remove it from the cab and use an older PC to run the software.
Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!
