depending on what youa re wanting toplay... most of this may be overkill.  is this a cabinet/emulator system or....

need more info to gauge clearly.

I agree. Unless you plan on playing PC games - this is alot of firepower. If you plan on playing PC games all bets are off. If you just plan on playing some mame games - you might as well get the loss leader pc at Dell for $400.

Thats what I did. Your mileage may vary

where do you live?
i no longer purchase new stuff for my mame creations. there is an abundance of
used computers that people are getting rid of where I live (san jose ca)
try craiglist.com for used computer stuff. i found some great deals for used stuff.
i just picked up 4 computers for 20 bucks.

as far as your specs- sounds awesome(and expensive). I'm sure it will
be a fast rig. I'd love to be typing on what you listed.

ps. i've found that there is a performance ceiling that most people can't sense
around the 2ghz. I have a 1 ghz, 2.4 and 3 ghz pentium machines and it is hard
to notice the difference on non gaming usage.

I also got tired of shelling out hundreds of dollars for the latest and greatest only
to be trumped in 6 months by a faster and cheaper chipset. so now i don't play
that game.

Another idea is an obsolete model of Compaq/Hp/Dell, etc. Here in Australia you can sometimes pick up a discontinued model brand new in box cheaply.  The specs arent the latest and greatest but the price is right!

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I agree that it's probably a bit much, but I really want to be able to put this thing in my cabinet and then not have to worry about it.

I will also be doing some other emulation besides MAME, which can use more horsepower.  I would like to emulate as much as possible and then I can throw my Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube in there.

Since I have moved over to HDTV, I am considering this my ultimate "original aspect ration" 4:3 system.

Thanks for the feedback, though, I think I'll go ahead and order it.
