On Saturday I picked up a Sega HANG-ON upright cabinet working and in good shape for a really good deal. Marty, if you're a BYOACer Thanks for the great transaction!

The game works wells but it looks like someone broke the accellerator cable at some point so someone just connected the brake cable to the accellerator mechanism to keep the game "playable".  So basically twisting the handlebar does nothing (no cable connected) and pulling the brake accellerates.

I checked out Happs Controls and they sell replacement cables (I think, there were no pictures, just an add to your cart option), but they wanted a total of $80 for two cables!! I paid $100 for the cab in total, which is a great deal but still.  These cables look identical to regular motorcycle cables, they are about approx 4-8 inches in length total.  I would guess that even bicycle brake cables would work.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has these cables they are willing to sell or if anyone has thoughts or ideas on how I can make something from either motorcycle or bicycle cable?  The only other thing that needs fixing is the yellow round start button - it was missing and a square yellow was in it's place (totally doesn't fit, but it works).  I'm guessing I can find the low profile yellow lighted button on Happ's site - I'll have to look.

Let me know if anyone has any of these parts or if you can point me to any web sites for cutting/making brake cables/suppliers.

Here's a photo I found on ebay, I'm contacting the seller but he only has one of the cables, so if it's the shorter brake cable I may be out of luck. He will measure the length for me and let me know.  Just wanted to include it to give you an idea of what these things look like.

Thanks!

i used to work at a bicycle shop. what you need to do is bring all the parts to your local
real bicycle shop with a case of ice cold soda and maybe some homemade cookies.
then you need to explain what you are trying to do. reassure them that the cable you are making
is for a game, and not some life dependent part like a brake for a chopper motorcycle you are building.
if it is a good shop, they will have all the parts you need. don't forget the ice cold sodas and homemade cookies.
a good bike shop will be happy to help you out. be sure go there when they are not busy.

where are you located?

  • Who the heck is that?
I don't have and extra throttle cable, but if by any chance you should happen to end up winning an auction with throttle cable and brake cable, my Hang-on needs the brake cable. (and a brake lever assembly.)  I'd split the cost of the auction.

I'll have to check into a local bike shop, thanks....

The ebay is a buy it now for $16 for one cable, not sure which cable yet but I don't think I can split with you (I would but it's only for one cable). Sorry.

Thanks for the input....
