Area 51 Mame system help for a noobie
« on: April 30, 2006, 02:52:00 am »
Hello,  I am building my first MAME system.  I am building an Area51 system.  I am having a hard time finding a good review on lightguns.  Can somebody please help me with the selection of lightguns.  It seems like the selection is limited and finding one that fits all my needs is not possible.  I need it to be a 2 player system so I need 2 guns.  Also, I am using a standard TV, not a computer or arcade monitor.

I would like it to work like the real arcade game such as shoot offscreen, etc...  Alot of the guns I have found are to funny looking.  I wish there was a simple, cheasy looking gun like the original arcade light guns.  Would it be possible to buy the light guns made for the actual arcade game and hack it to work with a MAME/computer system?

Otherwise can you please advise me on the best/closest match for a MAME lightgun?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

I wanted to add that I have been reading alot about the GunCon2 drivers.  Would this be an option for me?  I would have alot more choice in guns and they work with the TV.  Do they work really well with MAME?  Can  you shoot offscreen for reload?

Thanks again.

Normal GunCon2 can work with a TV while LCD GunCon2 don't really care anything about the video.

GunCon2PC driver can reload shooting offscreen with every game (mame or not, with the sole exception of lethal justice) using the proper configuration.

if you want a lightgun, actually there is the more wide choice of it than ever. Just pick the GunCon2 model you like more.
