Putting a PC inside a monitor case.

It's unusual but I have a 15" CRT Elo touchscreen monitor which is encased with a drilled steel shell and I wish to try and put a PC inside of it for portability.



There is plenty of space inside to fit a mobo, power supply and hardrive but I was wondering if their will be any negative effects especially to the hardrive?

I will try and put the hardrive as far from the montor components as possible but is it possible to shield it as well? And if so how?

used to work on a similar project in my day working for a large cow spotted computer manufacturer.  We were concerned about emi more than you may be.  My quick answer would be yes, it may cause issues.

It would depend on how much shielding is on the tube components themselves and how much they used the metal case for sheilding.

I am surprised that there seems to be enough room for Board/Powersupply and HDD.  I would also be concerned with how I mounted those items to the metal case (grounding issues).

To be safe, I would try to make a thin box to go under the TV, attach the 2 together and go from there.

I may be wrong it may not have any problems, but I would be careful.

I'm going to ditch the idea and build a case underneath as you suggested.

I got the mobo inverted from the top panel and isolated using stand offs. The power supply was fairly easy to attach to the top as well and I tucked the harddrive into the back corner as far from the tube as possible. The problem was it just didn't look right with bolts and cables all over the place, coupled to the fact  I was nervous about the hardrive getting fried as it took me quite a while to set up. There is next to nothing in the way of shielding on the tube BTW.


Ah well thanks anyway and back to the drawing board.
