BYOAC's All-Time Favorite Arcade Games
« on: April 21, 2006, 05:15:01 pm »
I know the question often gets asked what everybody's favorite games are, and a thread to go with it pops up pretty often, but this is something a little different. I want to take a survey of EVERY answer given and rank the top 25 by votes.

These aren't meant to be the most important arcade games ever, but rather the ones YOU HAD MOST FUN WITH. Which games ate up your quarters like crazy? Which ones still would if you could find them around? Which ones still do? I'll count every single vote and I'll create an article and spotlight for each game in the top 25 as well as various top 25 stats (number of games from each developer, average number of buttons per game on the list, by genre, etc.). The results will be put together into a nice page online where it can be referred to and possibly updated with new surveys each year (that way newcomers to the community can participate eventually).

The great thing about this community is the age range we'll be dealing with. Some gamers got their start with Pong, some got their start with Soul Calibur II. Be as honest as possible with your selections and don't criticize others on theirs; it's the only way we can get the most accurate polling possible.

Nominate up to 30 games for the top 25 list. Don't go over, but you can put less if you just don't have that many favorites. I'll collect votes for a while before making a count. You can either PM me your votes of post them here. Try not to use this thread for much discussion but rather for voting. The occasional comment is fine though.

Here's my top 30 list (alphabetically, not by rank):

1943
AfterBurner
Bubble Bobble
Donkey Kong
Dragon's Lair
Galaga
Gauntlet
House of the Dead 2
Killer Instinct
Metal Slug 3
Missle Command
Mortal Kombat II
Ms. Pac Man
Out Run
Police Trainer
Q*Bert
Robotron: 2084
Shinobi
Smash TV
Soul Calibur II
Space Invaders
Star Wars (original)
Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
Strider
Strikers 1945 III
Super Sprint
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Simpsons
Virtua Tennis
X-Men

Note: If you change your vote and edit your post, let me know via PM so I can make sure my counts can be updated as well.

If this has been done before (and put in a nice, clean web site) point me to it. If this post belongs in a different board feel free to move it.

Thanks in advance to everyone that votes!

Hmm, 10/04 was the date. Should I abandon this and just create a site based off that old list? Should we vote again? It looks like that last one was very well done.

Yeah, I tried to do this at the end of last year, but there were very little people who participated.

even if you don't bother with the survey part, a "favorite games" website sounds like a good idea. go for it!
