Keyboard encoders need for this 4 Player CP???
« on: April 20, 2006, 02:50:32 pm »
Right, im now 99% certain on my 4 player CP setup,

what keyboard interface's shall i need, i will be using the following controls:

2 x Happ 49 Way stick with Floyd's conversion for rotary feature (players 1 & 2)-------(www.Happcontrols.com)
2 x Happ Ultimate or Competiton Stick (players 3 & 4)----------------------------------------(www.Happcontrols.com)
1 x Slikstik Tornado Spinner------------------------------------------------------------------------(www.Ultimarc.com)
1 x Electric ICE-T Deluxe RGB Arcade Trackball or Happ 3" trackball------------------------(www.Groovygamegear.com www.Happcontrols.com)

30x Pushbutton------6x Blue HAPP HORIZONTAL TRANSLUCENT PUSHBUTTONS
6x Red HAPP HORIZONTAL TRANSLUCENT PUSHBUTTONS
4x Green HAPP HORIZONTAL TRANSLUCENT PUSHBUTTONS
4x Yellow HAPP HORIZONTAL TRANSLUCENT PUSHBUTTONS
10x Clear HAPP HORIZONTAL TRANSLUCENT PUSHBUTTONS

I think i will need:

2 x GP Wiz49 Eco 49-Way Joystick USB interface ( or can i just use 1 for 2 49way sticks?)
1 x I-PAC 4 Interface (for push buttons and Player 3&4 sticks)
1 x Opti-PAC Interface (for trackball & spinner)

Will the GPwiz49 be compatable with the I-PAC 4 and Opti-PAC or is there other/better interfaces i could use? Anything i have missed? Thanks in advance!

I don't think you need the I-Pac-4: you should be able to get by with 2 x GPWiz 49s (covers the sticks and buttons).

So is it one GPWiz 49 for each stick, or can u hook 2 sticks up to 1 GPWiz? Also is the GPWiz 49, as user friendly as the I-PAC, i always liked the option of holding down P1 & P2 buttons to exit mame etc

I don't own the GPWiz49 - but I have the Keywiz and GPWiz. The software is very easy to use, should you want to customize settings. I'm not sure about hooking up two sticks, but theoretically, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe Randy can chime in here?

As far as the P1 & P2 buttons - you can hook them up however you like. On my cab, right now when you press them together, it coins up - since I haven't installed my coin door yet...

You will need 2 GPWiz49's one for each 49way stick. Each GPWiz49 also supports 23 individual inputs in addition to the 49way stick.

You will also need an Interface such as Druin's Rotary Interface in order to use the rotary conversion.

Note that GPWiz49 reports to the computer as a Game Pad not a keyboard like the I-Pac does. This isn't a problem if any programs you plan on running allow you to use game pads (MAME does allow you to map all the controls to game pads) if however you are running a program that does not you will need a free program like Joy2Key which will convert the inputs from gamepads to keystrokes
