Swindus,
New version works great. Nice job.

I read your FAQ and saw that LEDWIZ support is not something in your short term plan.  Is it a possibility at all?  Not now, but maybe later?

Swindus has his own LED controller, the "MaLa Hardware", which also will control a LCD screen.

Don't you think he would support his own controller first?
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Right, Buddabing.

Another point is: Why should I support the LED-Wiz for free so that GGG will earn good money?

Uhm.. I know that swindus offers his own hardware.  I know his hardware is obviously his first priority.  Was trying to get a feel if LEDWIZ support was a remote possibility in future.  I just thought more people would use Mala if it also had LEDWIZ support.

I could work on the support of LEDWIZ for AtomicFE , if some of you are interrested  and if you can manage to offer (or just lend for few time) me one.

Personnaly, I have no problem with the fact that GGG will earn good money.

Put me down for this.  Have not bought one yet but it is next on my list.  Will be happy to help out how ever I can with testing etc.
Was hoping Atomic would support this.  Thanks Youki

Why not Consider getting your hands on MaLa hardware rather than 'taking a wiz'?.   It has LED & LCD Support ..makes a sexy cab.  Swindus has loaded heaps of options in MaLa to run it it different ways depending if you are playing a game/playing Jukebox/ or in 'attract' mode.....   also If you choose to buy it in kit form it is also fun to make.   :P

Just a hint: You will need 1 LED-Wiz to drive 8 RGB Leds. So I would say one LED-Wiz is not enough to develop for a 16 or 32 LED configuration.

Instead of this kind of lcd screen , it would be better to have a kind of Gameboy color screen.  :)

2 Line B&W LCD screen are too limited for my ideas...  :)

At the current dollar rate:

LCD/16LED Assembly
Circuit board with controller, 16 high output Leds, 16 resistors, all needed cables (Led, LCD and USB)
75 USD

LCD/16LED Ready to go
Circuit board with controller, 16 high output Leds, 16 resistors, all needed cables (Led, LCD und USB), completely assembled
100 USD

32LED Assembly
Circuit board with controller, 32 high output Leds, 32 resistors, all needed cables (Led and USB)
88 USD

32LED Ready to go
Circuit with controller, 32 high output Leds, 32 resistors, all needed cables (Led and USB), completely assembled
113 USD

Plus full software support with MaLa.

A Led wiz may be cheaper but it does not include required Leds, resistors, ALL required cables or current FE support.

So keep that in mind if you are shopping for some added 'bling' for your cab

The LED-Wiz can be used with some of the most popular current FE's and there is even a version of MAME that supports it directly.  As for the wiring, the LED-Wiz supports driving up to 25 ultra bright LED's per output, full RGB control (110592 possible colors), 48 levels of intensity per output, hardware modulation FX , etc.   It is often used in these different configurations, making pre-made harnesses mostly unsuitable for the majority of users.

Please make sure your claims are, at least, accurate.

Thank you.

So what does it cost to drive 25 ultra bright LED's per output or 32 rgb LED's?
No offense, I just want to know.

BTW, if it isn't considered bad taste to post about your product in a competitors thread, it should be.  ;)

No offense, I just want to know.

A single unit will handle it.  Obviously, on a single unit, the up to 256 possible RGB LEDs would need to be operated in up to 10 "banks" and the up to 800 possible monochrome (single color) high-bright LEDs would need to be operated in up to 32 banks.

Or did I misunderstand the question?

Thanks for the info, but then you will need an external power supply, right?
A 'bank' is controlled by one output. Is it possible to control each LED connected to the bank?
Just for the accurateness.

And again: what does it cost?

Thanks for the info, but then you will need an external power supply, right?

Yes, it operates in both USB only  (limited number of LEDs lit at one time) and External Power modes.  A 5v line from the PC is recommended for the large numbers of LEDs.  The USB power limitation, as you must know, is the same for any controller.

Quote

Just for the accurateness.

Yes, but not individually.  All LEDs in a bank will react the same, whether it is hardware modulation FX, brightness or in the the RGB sense, color.  For individual control of higher than 32 mono or 10.66 RGB LEDs, multiple LED-Wiz units and software, such as PowerMAME or multiple instances of the current resident software, would be required.

Quote
And again: what does it cost?

A single LED-Wiz unit with all of the features I just talked about, screw terminal connections and USB cable costs $44.95 with 2-3 day delivery in the US at $6.05.

But a quick look at the store would have told you that as well, so I guess I am wondering what is the point you are attempting to make?  "Just for the accurateness."

Thanks,
RandyT

I see you edited this post after asking me for more information.  I was just correcting errors that both you and loadman made in reference to the LED-Wiz.

If you don't want to hear about the LED-Wiz in your thread, don't post inaccurate information about it, and then don't ask me a bunch of questions about it after I post a correction to the misinformation.

Just so the record is clear,  I used that line when you butted into the LED-Wiz product announcement thread pushing your product, which you were the first to bring up.  Not the case here.

Hi,

What FE's directly support it now was my point?    ;)

I fail to see what was inaccurate. ? You do indeed have to buy extra bits and pieces to get the led wiz up and running. There is no need to get defensive as I didn't mean to hit a nerve.

I'm sorry if I have caused offence as both are good products (but quite different)

I Just want to encourage healthy competition.  Everyone should be aware that there are choices .  Most know about the LedWiz already as you have started many a thread on it I think.

Peace love and Mungbeans..

I don't see any errors or inaccurate information before you wrote here.

How about this one?

Just a hint: You will need 1 LED-Wiz to drive 8 RGB Leds.

The L:ED-Wiz supports 10.66 RGB LEDs per unit, not 8.

There was also the comment about FE support.  Any FE that allows a program to be executed before and/or after the game selected can support the LED-Wiz.  The very popular MAMEwah FE is a good example of this.  And of course, MIkeQ's MAME32 based PowerMAME has a "front end" that talks to the LED-Wiz directly.

What do you 2 guys think people have been doing with the LED-Wiz all this time? :)

Push your stuff all you like.  Consumers will decide which will better suit their needs.  Just don't expect others to remain mute when you use the name of their product in connection with bad information.

But it makes sense with a 32 RGB LED config. So it is possible to use 3 LED-Wiz instead of 4, but you will need an external power supply for your LEDs. And that was my thought in my post: 1 LED-Wiz can drive 8 RGB LED's with the default usb connection.

With more than 1 LED-Wiz. you can spread an RGB LED across 2 units if you desire to do so.

The .66 is 2 of the 3 colors of the LED.  Real funny stuff  :lame:

I am aware of what it can and can't do. Sorry I worded it badly.

[edit] The Ledwiz currently has has some software support issues. See  here for example. I have no doubt it will get there eventually. I am not slamming the product, I'm sure some users will love it. I have bought from GGG in the past and am happy with the products I received (ice buttons). I just feel that the LedWiz in my personal opinion is not a product for beginners or someone seeking a straight forward, all inclusive (hardware and software) set-up, and Mala hardware may be a suitable alternative for some users[end of edit]

....

Anyway to enlighten interested 'cab bling bling' shoppers.. I can tell you I am very happy with my purchase of MaLa hardware 5 months ago and feel it necessary to 'share the joy' by telling others about this MaLa hardware.

....Now Getting back on track with this thread about explaining what sexy things MaLa FE can do with MaLa hardware.

Hence I have posted the following screen shots:
